Speaking this morning 10:00 am at Belgrave South Baptist Church. Want to join me? http://ht.ly/o11xg
Jesus teachings show us He is concerned about our understanding.
- Jesus said to the followers, “Do you understand this story? If you don’t, how will you understand any story? Mark 4:13
In this verse Jesus is talking about understanding God’s Word in order to understand God’s purpose.
I will be giving the message at Belgrave South Baptist Church in the morning.
Off to Belgrave South Baptist Church
I am a fortunate man! I work with the marginalized in the City of Melbourne and get to witness every day God working in and through peoples lives/ However, just lately I have been aware of the trauma people go through as they adjust to new ways of living that are uncommon to them. Things that those of s have been on the recovery road for a long time take for granted can be big issues for the newly recovered.
As I pondered this thought I considered my own spiritual walk. Where I am now, where I came from and what I had to do to get here. And, I need to confess through my spiritual travels I have experienced a number of Identity Crisis’s.
When I first came to recovery I came with an identity I had worked hard at creating, to protect myself in the circles in which I lived. Then as I progressed in recovery I invented a new identity as I learned and applied the ‘Steps and Principles of Recovery.’ to my every day living.
When I left the programme I went to work for the Salvation Army and my identity became ‘Family Stores Manager’ in various roles of management as I travelled through the ranks of ‘Family Stores.’ An identity I believed was my rightful place in the Christian and Business world. An identity I was devastated to have to give up, when God instructed me to leave ‘Family Stores’ An identity that when i lost it I thought to myself, and asked God “What now?”
On leaving Family stores I went to work first for Pallet Control Australia then for AMRS industries I knew little about. New Identities as Archie Boyle, Manager. Identities I struggled with but persevered with.
When I left AMRS I came to work for The Salvation Army Project 614 in the position of Crisis Support worker. Another position that I knew very little about, when I started. But, one that I believed God placed me in to influence the lives of others.
Today my job title is Safe Exits Housing Coordinator, with The salvation Army Project 614. I have learned to be many things to many people, including a husband and father (the two hardest roles of my life). But I still find myself asking the question “Who am I?”
When I introduce myself to people what do I say? Archie Boyle ????????. What is my identity?
“In your life together, think the way Christ Jesus thought. He was like God in every way, but he did not think that his being equal with God was something to use for his own benefit. Instead, he gave up everything, even his place with God.He accepted the role of a servant, appearing in human form.During his life as a man, he humbled himself by being fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8
