Popular practices can be fatal

“You will know that I am the Lord. It was my law that you broke. You did not obey my commands. You decided to live like the nations around you.Ezekiel 11:12

We often get involved in things because they are ‘popular’ and we all want to be popular. The problem is for those of us with addictive and compulsive natures popular can mean ‘fatal’ A social drink for a non alcoholic can be a good thing. A bet on the Melbourne Cup for someone who doesn’t have a gambling addiction an enjoyable event. But for those of us with addictions and compulsions the cliche ‘one is too many and a thousand not enough’ is a real fact of life.

We start things because they make us feel good not realising the damage the danger our lives are being infected with, or how morally destructive the are for our character.

In recovery it may hurt sometime when we need to go against popular practices but it is important for us all to remember the consequence of one drink, a harmless flutter etc.

Recovery isn’t always easy but it is always right! for those in the process of life transformation from our addictive and compulsive behaviours.
