2015 – Day 11

Galatians 5:19-21 It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on. This isn’t the first time I have warned you, you know. If you use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God’s kingdom.

Focus Verse: It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness.

This passage tells me it’s obvious what kind of life develops if I keep trying to get my own way.I read a quote the other day that said “real unselfishness consists in sharing the interests of others.” I find myself asking myself today “how interested am I in the interests of others?” Do I pay attention to what is going on in the lives of my wife and children? When someone I am working with relapses do I take time to find out why? And to help them back on the right road!

This passage goes on to tell me that because of what God has done in my life He is warning me: To continue to grow spiritually and be all that He has called me to be I need to put the interests of others before my own interests. I need to be prepared to do things I may not want to do and I need to get involved in the lives of others if I truly want to ‘be different and make a difference,’

Prayer: Just for today I am going to put the interests of others before my own interests. If someone needs my help I will give it. Help me today God to get involved where I need to get involved and stay out of things that are none of my business.
