Long-existent tragedies start with a tiny spark, which was fanned and gradually became a bushfire
The Righteous One knows what is going on in the homes of the wicked; he will bring disaster on them. Proverbs 21:12
We live in a topsy-turvy world. Every week it seems an elected government is overthrown. Crime is on the increase, insecurity and confusion reign. In homes where there one was peace violence, addiction, unemployment and financial instability steal the headlines. Those in authority, whilst talking big in the final analysis usually make concessions that add fuel to the fire of social problems, and deal too lightly with the rampant ills of society. Individually, we can fail too, in getting to grips with self-destruction.
Avoiding dealing with our problems has always been a human weakness. But it’s hypocritical to criticise others for their failures when we ourselves refuse to do anything worthwhile.
Calamity can strike overnight, but long-existent tragedies start with a tiny spark, which was fanned and gradually became a bushfire. Addiction is like that; our civilisation did not take long to learn how to concoct mood-altering drugs. Drugs which produce dependency. Destructive to families, society and every nation. ‘Police forces cannot stop drugs.’ Only people can stop drugs. Somewhere, there is a solution, but I don’t know where it is. The only solution I am aware of is ‘The Word of God’ – the Bible, and the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.
Lord, cut the cords that hold me to addiction, free me please. Lay on me Your will for my life and sever me from my past.
