Gossip barbed with our anger, a polite form of murder by character assassination, has its satisfactions for us, too. Here we are not trying to help those we criticize; we are trying to proclaim our own righteousness. TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 67

“Brothers and sisters, stop slandering each other. Those who slander and judge other believers slander and judge God’s laws. If you judge God’s teachings, you are no longer following them. Instead, you are judging them.” James 4:11

Gossip breaks down relationships: Making up or spreading lies about others is forbidden by God. It undermines God’s intention for relationships and strains cooperation. Destructive gossip causes many problems in the lives of God’s people. Even if you do not initiate the gossip, keeping it going makes you responsible for the problems. Don’t make or pass on gossip about others. GOD DOES NOT APPROVE
