Stick with the winners

All the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant. Philippians 3:8

Addiction inflicts loss on us, it is not a winning life. It has been said ‘addiction will remove stains from summer clothes.’ This may be correct; but it will also remove summer clothes and winter clothes from the backs of those caught up in it. It will deprive families of their clothes, food and other things they are entitled to. It removes trust and good will, it is a down-grader. Most people reading this will be able to relate. You will have lost much, and will lose even more unless change occurs in your life. Loss of reputation, self-worth and hope are among the most forfeited blessings.

The Bible repeatedly sets before us stories of loss. It reveals how recovery took place in some cases. Wise people consider carefully the mistakes made by Bible characters. Brilliant people who did silly things that led to harsh losses and consequences. Brilliant people who disregarded God and paid the price for short-lived gain and self-satisfaction. Be ever thankful if God has won you over from the ever losing cycle of addiction. Living on the winning side is thrilling and fulfilling. Each of us, through the process of recovery have opportunity to relinquish short-term gain and self-satisfaction by holding firm to the innermost spiritual gain that can only be found in personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the One True Higher Power. Today we have a choice to continue on the path of the losers or to ‘STICK WITH THE WINNERS’

Lord, I have frequently sold out cheaply and hung with the losers. Teach me today to hang with You and ‘Stick with the winners.’
