2016 Day 76

Step Two: I believe God exists, that he cares about me and He can help me to regain control of my life.

Mark 1:15 “Time’s up! God’s kingdom is here. Change your life and believe the Message.”

Belief in God affects the way you live. If it doesn’t then it’s time to change something.

Believing in God changes your heart. Psalms 51:10  says God, create a pure heart in me. Give me a new spirit that is faithful to you. We are born sinners, our natural inclinations in life are to please ourselves and ignore God. In recovery we need to pay attention to Psalms 51:7  that says “Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” We need to ask God to cleanse our hearts from within, to fill our hearts with new thoughts and new desires. Positive life change can only come through cleansing of our hearts and spirits. If you haven’t yet right now stop reading, close your eyes and ask God to create a pure heart and spirit in you.

Believing in God helps us to change. Romans 8:9 says “Your sinful nature does not control you. The Holy Spirit controls you. The Spirit of God lives in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ.”  Have you ever thought to yourself “I hope I make it? I hope I am really in the process of change?” I have. When you truly believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He died for your sin you will know that the Holy Spirit has entered your life, you will feel Him  and your life will never be the same again.

Believing in God includes but is not limited to our actions. We can all make the right moves, say that right things and mx in the right circles. Belief in God requires obedience to following Him wherever He leads you, whenever He leads you and that can be uncomfortable.Deuteronomy 27:10 says  “You must obey the Lord your God by keeping all these commands and decrees that I am giving you today.”  Recovery requires complete commitment to trusting God and following Him in every area of your life.

Step 2 says “I believe God exists, that he cares about me and He can help me to regain control of my life.”
