We admitted that we were powerless over our problems
– that our lives had become unmanageable.

We admitted we were powerless

Romans 1:1 This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach His Good News.

Paul purposely referred to himself as a slave to demonstrate his humility and dependence of God. We in our lives need Pauls type of humility. To progress in life we need to recognise none of us can do life on our own. We need God and when we turn our lives over to Him it is then and only then we will start achieving what He has in store for us.

Matthew 4:8-9 The devil took Jesus to the peak of a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to You,” he said, “if You will kneel down and worship me.”

  • The devil can offer us the world today by trying to entice us with material items and with power.
  • We need to learn to repeat Jesus words when the devil offers us the wrong things in our lives. Matthew 4:10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.'”

– We experience God’s Power in our lives through trusting Him.

Mark 4:39-41
When Jesus woke up, He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then He asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey Him!”

– We experience God’s Power in our lives through Jesus.

Mark 5:39-42 He [Jesus] went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.” The crowd laughed at Him. But He made them all leave, and He took the girl’s father and mother and His three disciples into the room where the girl was lying.  Holding her hand, He said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means “Little girl, get up!”  And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! They were overwhelmed and totally amazed.

We admitted our lives are unmanageable

God wants us to turn to him for healing and forgiveness. He was patient for hundreds of years with the people of Israel in spite of their sins. He is just as patient with us now. He promised them He would come and bring forgiveness and freedom to all people. And, He is with us now to help us manage our unmanageable lives. We can receive his help by turning to Him, trusting Him and obeying His will for our lives.

Matthew 4:17 Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near. “

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow Me.”

Acts 2:38Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Romans 2:4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that His kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

Romans 2:5 Because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
