Daily Reflection August 31, 2016
Matthew 6:13 Do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Remember the good times? Our memory of the good times we had while drinking, drugging, gambling etc. are a source of temptation in recovery we need to guard against. It is easy to paint a lovely picture in ourminds of how things used to be. Easy for us to only see the bright times, the warm atmosphere and the good companions.
What we often fail to remember is the lonely nights drunk in a corner with no friends, no money and no future. Who wants to be bothered by a drunk? Nor do we remember the hangovers, the arguments, the remorse of the guilt.
Only by maintaing a good quality of recovery can we overcome the temptations that will attack us through our thoughts and selective memories.
Since I have given my life to God, I have become aware of being guided through periods of tempatation. In 1989 I made a conscious decision to follow Jesus wherever He leads me, instead of following the imaginations in my mind. I know that by trusting Him He will not lead me into temptation that I cannot overcome with His help.
I pray that I may follow wherever God leads me and He will help me to overcome the negativevthoughts wheich come to mind about the past and the ‘Good old days.’
