LISTEN AND OBEY

Hebrews 12:25 Be sure that you don’t say no to the One who speaks. People did not escape when they said no to the One who warned them on earth. And what if we turn away from the One who warns us from heaven? How much less will we escape!

As we experience success in recovery, it is easy to feel as if we no longer need to apply what we have learned to our daily living. We begin to think we know more and are better than others. We believe we have beaten our addictions and compulsions so we drop our guards.

One of my beliefs and I have held it for a long time is “Most people who relapse in recovery do so because they don’t plan not to.” The ‘Big Book’ of Alcoholics Anonymous says “We deal with alcohol, cunning, baffling and powerful.”

Don’t get caught out. Listen to God today and do what He says you should.

  • What is God prompting you to do today?

Prayer: Lord help me to listen to You and obey today.

Prepared for War!

A Wycliffe Bible translator writes: “I went to the Amazon jungle in 1963 among the Apurina people. I was the first to challenge Satan’s dominion over this people. My purpose was to transfer them from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light.

“Unfortunately, in spite of a Master of Theology degree, I was not aware of these truths [about spiritual warfare]. I got clobbered! Satan wiped the floor with me. I didn’t understand what was happening.

“I knew that Satan and demons exist; the Bible is clear on that score. But I knew very little about how they operate and virtually nothing about the use of our weapons, whether for defense or offense. My professors transmitted the idea that demonic attack wouldn’t be a problem for us.

“[But] the warnings in the New Testament about conflict with Satan and demons are all addressed to believers. We are involved whether we want to be or not. And the stakes are high—the glory of God. Our enemy is committed to making us ineffective in our personal lives and in our ministries.

BE PREPARED

1 Corinthians 14:8 If the trumpet call can’t be distinguished, will anyone show up for the battle?

1 Peter 5:8-9 Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith.

Revelation 12:10-12 Then I heard a strong voice out of Heaven saying, Salvation and power are established! Kingdom of our God, authority of his Messiah! The Accuser of our brothers and sisters thrown out, who accused them day and night before God. They defeated him through the blood of the Lamb and the bold word of their witness. They weren’t in love with themselves; they were willing to die for Christ. So rejoice, O Heavens, and all who live there, but doom to earth and sea, For the Devil’s come down on you with both feet; he’s had a great fall; He’s wild and raging with anger; he hasn’t much time and he knows it.
