Seeking God

Bible Reading:
Psalm 27:7-9

Psalms 27:8 When my heart whispered, “Seek God,” my whole being replied, “I’m seeking him!”

In the process of addiction, we all reach our ‘Rock Bottom’ A particular time or moment when we realize “I can’t do this on my own.” and we start looking outside of ourselves for a solution to our problems.

For me, I can identify so easily that moment. It is generally a place when we are at the end of self-reliance and ready to ‘do whatever we need to do to change our lives.’ Prior to reaching my rock bottom, I realized I was an alcoholic and needed to find a way to stop drinking (at that time I was not interested in changing my character) So like so many others before me and after me, I sought the solution to my drinking problem in Alcoholics Anonymous. I learned to talk the talk, I learned to manipulate my problems to get what I thought I needed to solve them.

Rock-bottom for me occurred whilst in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, realizing what I needed was personal relationship with God (not as I understood Him but as He understands me) Self-reliance ended for me when out of sheer desperation I knelt at the side of my bed and prayed sincerely that He would change my life. He did, and I made a commitment to Him in 1989 that wherever He leads me I will follow.

Today’s verse says “When my heart whispered, “Seek God,” my whole being replied, “I’m seeking him!” Alone in a rehabilitation program, ‘my heart whispered.’ and I heard it. Not in a whisper but in the strong, bold, powerful voice of Jesus Christ. Who said to me “You do not need to live like this anymore. Follow Me and I will lead you.”

Is He whispering to you today? Are you listening? Will you respond?
