Put Your Faith In God!
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is.” Those who trust their own insight are foolish. People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.
Jeremiah 17:9 ~ Proverbs 28:26 ~ 2 Timothy 3:2-5 ~ James 1:20 ~ Romans 10:17
Our actions will show that we belong to the truth so we will be confident when we stand before God. Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything. Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. And we will receive from Him whatever we ask because we obey Him and do the things that please Him. And this is His commandment: We must believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with Him and He with them. And we know He lives in us because the Spirit He gave us lives in us. 1 John 3:19-24
God knows all about us. He knows everything we are feeling and everything we are doing. He also knows our motives for doing them.
we come to recovery and try to do the right thing but things don’t go the way we planned. So, we get down on ourselves and beat ourselves up because we are human. Step Two says “I Believe That God Exists.” and “I Believe That He Cares About Me.”
The Bible tells us “we must believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.” It goes on to tell us “Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with Him and He with them.”
God doesn’t want us to beat ourselves up because we make mistakes. In recovery, the best way for us to rectify our mistakes is outlined in Step Nine when it says “Having identified the people, I have harmed, I will now go and make restitution to them” Remember God knows you, He knows all about you and He loves you anyway.
“Our actions will show that we belong to the truth” How are your responding to your mistakes as you move forward on the road to character change?
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that may seem right to a man. But in the end it leads to death.
I have never liked the taste of alcohol, even when I drank. I drank for the feeling.
When I realised I had a drinking problem, it was destroying my life and would probably result in my dying, I drank for the feeling.
I had a discussion with someone just yesterday about the insanity of addiction’ and our disregard of consequences for the sake of the feeling.
The best definition I have ever heard of insanity is ‘Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.’
- It’s time to stop ignoring the feeling and start concentrating on reality.
