#59 One Way

Status

Hebrews 7:25 People now come to God through Him. And He is able to save them completely and for all time. Jesus lives forever. He prays for them.

There is is one way to living, growing, lasting recovery and that is through personal relationship with Jesus.

How do I know that? Because I have tried recovery without Him and tried recovery with Him. My personal experience of both confirmed to me He is the only way to productive, progressive, life-changing recovery.

There were many things from my past I didn’t want to face up to. Was incapable in my own strength to face up to or do anything about. There were many bad habits in me that I was comfortable with. Jesus made me uncomfortable with them, showed me a new way of living a life in recovery. And, he helped me to face up to my character defects and bad habits and do something about them.

Recovery is not an easy process. Anyone who says it is isn’t doing it right! But recovery is a necessary process, a worthwhile process and a life-changing process if you put your faith in Him.

  • Where in your life are you placing your faith?
  • How is that working out for you?

Prayer Today Lord I know recovery is not an easy process but a worthwhile on. Help me to keep moving forward in the process and put my faith and trust firmly in You.

STAND FAST

Status

Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you’ve got, be resolute. Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. Live in such a way that you are a credit to the Message of Christ. Let nothing in your conduct hang on whether I come or not. Your conduct must be the same whether I show up to see things for myself or hear of it from a distance. Stand united, singular in vision, contending for people’s trust in the Message, the good news. Stay on track, steady in God.

#58 Stand Firm!

Status

Proverbs 11:2-3 The stuck-up fall flat on their faces, but down-to-earth people stand firm. The integrity of the honest keeps them on track; the deviousness of crooks brings them to ruin.

Today as we prepare for Step Three I want to tell you about how “I made a decision to let God help me change and committed to working with Him to do so”

After the prayer alone in my room, the rehab had a guest speaker come to conduct ‘Chapel’ During that meeting an invitation was given to make Jesus your Higher Power. Without intention, I responded.

Finding myself at the front of the Chapel I knew I was emotionally, physically and spiritually bankrupt and I knelt to pray. When I stood up after prayer I physically felt the power of The Holy Spirit enter my body, go through my body and I knew I was changed.

From that day to this day Jesus Christ is my Higher Power and for that I am thankful. Is

  • God confronting you to believe in Him and depend on Him?

Prayer Thank You, Jesus. Today help me to depend on Your power not my own

Are you Listening?

Status

Prov 3.6

I. Listening to God is the first step in obeying Him.
Moses called all Israel together. He said to them, Attention, Israel. Listen obediently to the rules and regulations I am delivering to your listening ears today. Learn them. Live them. Deuteronomy 5:1

II. Listening to God is training in humility.
After the earthquake fire, but God wasn’t in the fire and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper. When Elijah heard the quiet voice, he muffled his face with his great cloak, went to the mouth of the cave, and stood there. A quiet voice asked, “So Elijah, now tell me, what are you doing here?” 1 Kings 19:12-13

III. Spiritual listening allows us to learn from others.
Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. James 1:19-20

IV. Spiritual listening is always followed up by action.
It is important to listen to what God’s Word says, but it’s much more important to obey it and do what it says. Are you putting into action what you have learned in recovery?

Recovery Without God is Just Abstinence

Status

Psalm 46:1 God is our place of safety. He gives us strength. He is always there to help us in times of trouble

Prior to accepting Jesus Christ as my Higher Power, I had periods of sobriety. Periods where I abstained from drinking and using mood-altering drugs. But they weren’t recovery because I never changed. My attitudes never changed, my beliefs never changed, and my behaviours never changed.

A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is required if you want to achieve lasting, growing life recovery.

  • Are you willing to accept Jesus as your Higher Power?

  • Will you accept Him now?

Prayer: Jesus I accept You now as my Higher Power and ask You to walk with me through the rest of my life.

#56 Repentance

Status

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen and repentRevelation 2:5

Jesus called men to repentance. No retreat of that command has ever been issued. Any effort to avoid that requirement has proved futile.  From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”  Matthew 4:17 We cannot bypass it, we dare not dilute it, we must not dismiss it. It has to be an action word for us for the term of our natural lives.

Repentance is a pre-requisite to continued spiritual growth. It is the first thing to do when convicted by the Holy Spirit. It is the one thing required of us before God takes over in reclaiming our sin-ruined lives. Pleading for pardon can only be effective id SIN is realised in our lives and readily recognised as repulsive. Repentance precedes forgiveness!

Meditation

Repentance is not a once-in-a-lifetime exercise. It needs to be practiced on a daily basis. Step Ten says “Now that I am in the process of change, I will check myself daily to make sure I am not slipping back into my old ways and if I am, I will take steps to rectify it.” God has provided this means of grace and we can never cease in the process of repentance.  (we will never stop making mistakes)

Sin is the failure to live up to God’s standards of living in our day-to-day lives. It is backing away from God’s will and disregarding His live and truth. Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, Romans 3:23

Repentance is the message of recall when we choose to say ‘No’ to God. It is the word of encouragement to recapture when we make a mistake and get it wrong.

Prayer

ThankYou Jesus, that I can come to You in prayer for help when I get it wrong. Save me from my sin, and keep me from repetitive failure and error.
