We pray that you’ll live well for the Master, making him proud of you as you work hard in his orchard. As you learn more and more how God works, you will learn how to do your work. Colossians 1:10
In every walk of life maintaining enthusiasm is one of the main challenges. Motivators over recent years have been in high demand for the purpose of increasing enthusiasm, amongst other things.
We use stimulants for loss of energy, pick-me-ups when we feel depressed Many of these stimulants inrtroduced to help us to achieve extra special things, that under our own srength in normal circumstances woud be unattainable. We just don’t have the enthusiasm to proceed on our own.
There is a tendency, on completion of the Twelve Steps to relax and lose enthusiasm for strict and rigid recovery. It is important to realise when our enthusiasm weakens. For the rest of our lives we are in recovery, which will save us from undisciplined behaviour, careless attitudes, a ‘nothing-to-do’ syndrome and crippling boredom. Unless our life is lived in a ‘Growth in Recovery’ principle we will fall back into our old ways.
We must grow in the ways of God and learn maintenance skills for staying on the ‘right track’ We need to continually pray for a vision of what God can help us become and keep sight of it on a daily basis. Achieving God’s will for our lives keeps the fire of enthusiasm burning.
Lord, keep me for seeking an ‘easier, softer way’ when I am tempted to give up on recovery. Save me from self-pity, and indifference.
