I. Listening to God is the first step in obeying Him.
Moses called all Israel together. He said to them, Attention, Israel. Listen obediently to the rules and regulations I am delivering to your listening ears today. Learn them. Live them. Deuteronomy 5:1
II. Listening to God is training in humility.
After the earthquake fire, but God wasn’t in the fire and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper. When Elijah heard the quiet voice, he muffled his face with his great cloak, went to the mouth of the cave, and stood there. A quiet voice asked, “So Elijah, now tell me, what are you doing here?” 1 Kings 19:12-13
III. Spiritual listening allows us to learn from others.
Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. James 1:19-20
IV. Spiritual listening is always followed up by action.
It is important to listen to what God’s Word says, but it’s much more important to obey it and do what it says. Are you putting into action what you have learned in recovery?
