Stand Firm

Philippians 1:28 Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies.

Some of us have an endless list of problems confronting us. Circumstances surrounding us that cannot be easily resolved. Issues that have haunted us for far too long. Enemies or opponents that have constantly niggled us. Now, we read in the Bible “Don’t be intimidated.”

Fear of what we are up against can be terrifying. Which, if left undealt with can cause us to give in to hopelessness and fall back into our old ways of acting and reacting.  Giving in to despair can maroon us.

Faith believes in the Lord Jesus. The armies of Heaven are considerably greater than any force man can muster. Meaningful support is guaranteed when we are prepared to trust God. My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!  God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”  Psalms 121:2 ~ Hebrews 13:5  What a valuable promissory note of spiritual encouragement. Even when we don’t have what it takes, God does. As long as we give our wills and lives to him and let Him lead we can depend on Him to help us to stand Firm.

God Offers Comfort

2 Corinthians 1:4 He comforts us in all our troubles. Now we can comfort others when they are in trouble. We ourselves receive comfort from God.

One of my favourite Bible verses is John 16:33 which says “In this world, you will have trouble. But be encouraged! I have won the battle over the world.”

God offers us comfort even during our difficulties. Many of us believe when we get into recovery and hand life over to God all our troubles are going to disappear. That is not true.

Comfort from God can come in the form of strength to endure through our problems. It can come in the hope that one day we will overcome our problems.  It can come in the form of encouragement to deal with the hardships of life and not give up.

When we are feeling discouraged and down hearted God can use that to help us support someone going through similar things to us.
