Day: 5 May 2018

BibleMatthew 18:21-35 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. “But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ And he would not but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. So, when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ And his master was angry and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”

  1. God forgives our many sins because He loves us.

Psalms 65:3 As for our transgressions, You will provide atonement for them.

Psalms 86:5 You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.

  2. God makes us as clean as freshly fallen snow and removes our impurities.

Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.

Ezekiel 36:25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.

  3. We must forgive others without keeping track of how many times we forgive.

Matthew 6:14-15 “If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Matthew 18:21-22 Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

  4. We must freely forgive others as God has forgiven us.

Colossians 3:12-13 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

  5. God will forgive our sins if we confess them.

1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Taking Responsibility

Romans 14:12 You’ve got your hands full just taking care of your own life before God.

meMost of us when explaining or pasts want to justify our actions. I did. The last thing I wanted to do was take responsibility for the mess that became my life.

Step six is about trusting God to change our bad habits. That requires honesty and taking responsibility for the things we have done.

Recovery is about taking responsibility. Where we are now had nothing to do with our circumstances, our upbringing or anything anyone else has done to us. Where we are now is about how we reacted to those things.

Recovery is about learning new ways of reacting when things don’t go our way.

What or who have you blamed for your current situation?

Preserved By Humility

Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. James 4:6-10

logo_transparent_bg“Pride was the first thing that overcame man and is the last thing he overcomes.” That suggest we are always going to be in a ceaseless battle. Pride will keep recurring. There is a danger that lies within us. when we analyse the components that make up pride few of us can claim complete freedom from the sin of pride for any length of time.

Jesus set a pattern for humility. A path, process and program we must follow. It is a long haul: humility yesterday does not guarantee humility today.

When I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced. 2 Corinthians 2:21 The door into the Kingdom is God is set low so we must stoop to enter it.  At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:1-4  Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. Matthew 23:12-13
