No Easy Recovery

Hebrews 6:12 Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them.

The battles of life ahead of us ensure we will all experience degrees of excitement. No two days will ever be the same. Our involvement or lack of involvement in them will determine how we fill our days. Each of us decides for themselves how we will move forward.

God urges us to decide selectively. Wrong choices can bring woeful results. Our inward drive to think and do the wrong things needs to be repelled. Hard times and hefty blows will be aimed at us. Harmful remarks will fall on our ears. Hurtful practices will get to us. Recovery is not a bed of roses. But it is the best life, not boring, fulfilling. Partnership with Jesus.

Leviticus 4:22-23

“When a ruler sins unintentionally by straying from one of the commands of his God which must not be broken, he is guilty. When he becomes aware of the sin he has committed, he must bring a goat for his offering, a male without any defect”

When God gave His commandments He included instructions for handling mistakes and intentional sin Leviticus 4:2 “Tell the Israelites: When a person sins unintentionally by straying from any of God’s commands, breaking what must not be broken”

We are responsible for our behavior. Unintentional sins need to be acknowledged and corrected as soon as we become aware of them. God forgives all of our sins buy=t unless we deal with all our sins intentional and unintentional through the recovery process we risk them bringing us unstuck in the process.

It’s better to have a partner than go it alone. Share the work, share the wealth. And if one falls down, the other helps, But if there’s no one to help, tough! Two in a bed warm each other. Alone, you shiver all night. By yourself, you’re unprotected. With a friend, you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snap.

Supportive, healthy relationships are necessary for successful recovery. Standing alone we are vulnerable. We need to learn to trust others, so support others and to admit we need others. Through healthy relationships, we gain strength, wisdom, and relapse to our old ways of thinking, behaving and living.

When You Start The Day Right The Day Goes Right

James 1:27 Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.

Go for souls, and go for the worst!” the constant war cry of William Booth, founder of The Salvation Army.

I have lost count of the numerous people who have given me advice over the years on ‘how to attract more people’ ‘how to achieve more traffic on my blog and social media sites.’ To those people, I say ‘Thank you’ but no thank you.

Blogging to me and posting on social media has never been about reaching more people and always been about reaching the right people.

Every day since I began my recovery journey in 1987 my day has commenced the same way. With morning devotions! A short reading from a devotional book (I use three) Reflection on what it says and the Bible verses it points me to. A prayer to God that He will help me to adapt to my day what I have learned from those readings and reflections.

Take today: The first devotional I read is The Celebrate Recovery Daily Devotional which today uses the scripture:

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 And talks about how we all need people in our lives to tell us what we need to hear and prompt us to do what we need to do to live the life that God wants us to lead.

The second devotional isThe Life Recovery Devotional Which uses the scripture:

“If one of Israel’s leaders sins by violating one of the commands of the Lord his God but doesn’t realize it, he is still guilty. When he becomes aware of his sin, he must bring as his offering a male goat with no defects.” Leviticus 4:22-23 And talks about the need for us to take responsibility for the things we have done, the way we act and react to what happens in our lives. For me, it also highlights the importance of ‘And when we were wrong promptly admitted it.’ in step Ten.

The third devotional is SERENITY, meditations of Acceptance, Courage, and Wisdom.” Which uses the verses:

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. James 4:2-3

Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. Romans 10:17

Which talks about learning to pray about everything and not worry about anything because we have a Higher power and his name is Jesus Christ in whom we can put our faith and trust. He brings people into our lives (the right people) to support us in our journey of spiritual recovery. He also brings into our lives (more of the right people) who He wants us to support in their journey of spiritual recovery. He wants us to take responsibility for ourselves and to correct the wrong things in our character as soon as we become aware of them. And He wants us when we make a conscious decision to change those things to pray t Him about them and stop letting them dominate our thinking, actions, and living.
