2 Peter 2:9 ‘The Lord can rescue you and me from the temptations that surround us.’
The Lord knows how to rescue us! Provided we want to be rescued. Provided we are ready and willing to put in the effort required. Provided we are seeking His will and obedient to His leading and calling. Provided we are solidifying Jesus Christ as our One True Higher Power.
Part of overcoming temptation is to learn to pray “Lord, help me to run away when temptation comes upon me.” Avoiding the appeal of our drug of choice is imperative in the process of recovery. We cannot flirt with temptation without falling. 2 Timothy 2:22 says “Run away from infantile indulgence. Run after mature righteousness–faith, love, peace–joining those who are in honest and serious prayer before God.” We fall into temptation when we fail to run away from it. The enticements the enemy and the world place around us, about us and before us are countless. We do not need to yield. We need to do our part if we want God to help us to resist. We need to distance ourselves from places, people and things that are most likely to tempt us.
Prayer: Lord, teach me today to take Your Word to heart and overcome temptation with divine assistance.
