Day: 21 August 2018

Verse of The Day

Remember those early days after you first saw the light? Those were the hard times! Kicked around in public, targets of every kind of abuse—some days it was you, other days your friends. If some friends went to prison, you stuck by them. If some enemies broke in and seized your goods, you let them go with a smile, knowing they couldn’t touch your real treasure. Nothing they did bothered you, nothing set you back. So don’t throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It’s still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion. It won’t be long now, he’s on the way; he’ll show up most any minute. But anyone who is right with me thrives on loyal trust; if he cuts and runs, I won’t be very happy. But we’re not quitters who lose out. Oh, no! We’ll stay with it and survive, trusting all the way. Hebrews 10:35

Pride Leads to Relapse

Pride lures us into living independently of God. This causes God’s guiding influence to leave our life.

When we stay in God’s presence pride and self-sufficiency have no place in our lives because we have a hightened awareness of who we are, who God is and what He has done, is doing and will do in and through us.

Stinking Thinking Leads to Drinking

Hebrews 2:1 We must pay more careful attention to what we have heard. Then we will not drift away from it.

Continually looking at and adjusting what we have learned and how we apply it to our daily living is an important part of the recovery process. Ignoring it will lead us backward. Maybe not to the point of picking up our drug-of-choice but certainly to a point where we start traveling on a road to character destruction.

A problem for a number of people I have shared within recovery has been the opinion “I now know what I need to know so I don’t need this anymore.” Wrong opinions lead to relapse.

  • When was the last time you attended a meeting or spoke to someone in recovery about your recovery?

On Monday night at #LivingLifeRecovery in Hastings, we will be looking at the topic #StinkingThinkingLeadsToDrinking
