I have a serious concern to bring up with you, my friends, using the authority of Jesus, our Master. I’ll put it as urgently as I can: You must get along with each other. You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common. 1 Corinthians 1:10
The Bible tells us Romans 13:10 “You can’t go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code, the sum total is love.” It doesn’t say we have to like everyone or approve of how they are living. Our verse today says “You must get along with each other.”
Getting along with others is sometimes just tolerance and:
Tolerance of sin undermines our faith. Getting along with others does not mean tolerating their sin. We should not condone bad behavior and practices that lead people away from God.
Toleration of sin hurts us and hurts others. It is better to tolerate the pain of change or removal than to allow sin to take us back to our old ways of thinking and living. Or worse still to stand by and watch others die because of their sinful habits and behaviors.
