Wisdom

God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding. Wisdom is better than all the trappings of wealth. Wisdom puts more strength in one wise person Than ten strong men give to a city. Be God’s fool–that’s the path to true wisdom. What the world calls smart, God calls stupid. It’s written in Scripture, He exposes the chicanery of the chic. If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced.  Proverbs 2:6 ~ Proverbs 8:11 ~ Ecclesiastes 7:19 ~ 1 Corinthians 3:19 ~ James 1:5 ~ James 3:17

Hearing and Understanding

Proverbs 2:2 Let your ears listen to wisdom. Apply your heart to understanding.

Growing up we learn to hear. Maturity comes when we understand and apply what we have heard to our lives.

Now, not everything we hear is wisdom, nor good for us so we need to practice through the process of recovery to discern between what to apply and what to reject.

In the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous I would hear the words ‘take what you want and leave the rest.’ Which basically left me to choose what I accepted and rejected from the program. A dangerous option for someone who had spent their life doing just that.

Recovery is not about taking what you want. Recovery is about understanding you need to do what God wants.

  • Are you ready to accept your need to do what God wants?

Wisdom

Live Well, Live Wisely, Live Humbly

James 3:13-18 Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here’s what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It’s the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. Mean-spirited ambition isn’t wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn’t wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourselves sound wise isn’t wisdom. It’s the furthest thing from wisdom–it’s animal cunning, devilish conniving. Whenever you’re trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart and everyone ends up at the others’ throats. Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.

The Word for Recovery

Pay attention: I’m teaching you the rules and regulations that God commanded me, so that you may live by them in the land you are entering to take up ownership. Keep them. Practice them. You’ll become wise and understanding. When people hear and see what’s going on, they’ll say, “What a great nation! So wise, so understanding! We’ve never seen anything like it.”  Deuteronomy 4:5-6
