Ephesians 6:18 Prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
This morning at Narre Warren Baptist Church Pastor Peter Botross concluded a four week series on prayer called MARVEL
Highlighting the importance of prayer and the need for us to take it seriously.
Week one was about the ‘Intervention’ of God in our lives. BEING BROKEN IN SPIRIT PRECEDES THE BREAKTHROUGH OF THE SPIRIT in our lives. From a recovery point of view ‘rock-bottom is necessary for us to seek help outside of ourselves.’
2 Peter 1:1 says “I, Simon Peter, am a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ. I write this to you whose experience with God is as life-changing as ours, all due to our God’s straight dealing and the intervention of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
The intervention of God in my life and the lives of many others throughThe Twelve Steps has been incredible. Life-changing for the better. Without His intervention tnrough the power of the Holy Spirit living in and through my life on a daily basis I am certain I would not be where I am today or have the things I had, including my wife and three children.
Week two was about “Intimacy’ with God and allowing GODLY MOTIVATION TO ALLOW JESUS LIKE CHARACTER TRANSFORMATION in our lives. 1 John 4:17 says “As we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face Him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.”
For much of my life before appointing Jesus Christ as my ‘One True Higher Power’ I lived in fear. Fear of the now, fear of the later and fear of forever. But as I got involved more andmore in the recovery process I changed. Inspite of all my wrong attaitudes and behavious I found my character changing. Not of my own doing but through God’s intervening Spirit and the lessons He has taught me.
Week three was about ‘Insight’ GOING TO GOD FOR INSIGHT. Step Eleven in the ‘Living Life Recovery Twelve Steps.’ says. In order to discover God’s purpose in my life, implement it and to improve my relationship with Him, I will spend time daily in prayer, reading the Bible and meditating on it. Gaining insight from God to me is all about discovering His purpose for me and making it my daily priority in order to improve my personal relationship with Him. The more I know what He expects from me and pursue it the more I understand Him and His ways of living.
Week four (today) was about ‘Intercession’ MORE FAITH-TIME THAN FACE-TIME and the impact our prayers can can have on the lives of other people. 1 Timothy 2:1 says “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.”
The verse I started with today says “Prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
In the process of ‘Living Life Recovery’ the purpose is “I will try to live according to His principles and to lead others to a personal relationship with Him.” Achieving that purpose requires a lot of prayer Don’t take prayer lightly! It is not an optional extra in the recovery process. Take time to LET GOD INTERVENE allow Him to TRANSFORM YOUR CHARACTER through reading the Bible, paying attention to it and applying what you learn. Praying to Him and His INSIGHTS as He responds to your prayers. And remember ‘It’s not about me’ We have all been called to make a difference and be ‘the difference’ in the lives of those in our ‘Sphere of influence.’
Not sure I did the last four weeks justice but that’s the insights God has given to me from the MARVEL series.
