#4 4o Days of Recovery

Why Recovery?

Tonight I was meant to present the first message in the series ‘4o Days of Recovery” If you were looking forward too it I apoligise. I got home from work late and I was too tired, but I will post the elcome message over this weekend.
1Jn 1:5-10  says “This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His word has no place in our hearts.”

We all need recovery becaues we all have troubles
Jesus says in John 16:33 “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” Recovery is not easy. entry into it does not guarantee us a trouble free life. If it did we would have no need of a Saviour and no need of God’s interbention in our troubles. And, if it did we wiuld not appreciate the opportunities God presents to us o a daily basis.

Job said Job 3:26 “I have no peace, no quietness. I have no rest; only trouble comes.”
Job 42:2  “I know that you can do anything and that no one can stop you.

Through Jobs faith in God Job 42:12-13 tells us The Lord blessed Job at the end of his life more than at the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.God also gave him seven more sons and three more daughters. For some of us we may hae to wait longer than others for the blessings to be evident. Don’t quuit before they do.

We all need recovery because Proverbs 13:21 Tells us “Trouble chases sinners, while blessings reward the righteous.”

Psalms 7:16 The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads. We can’t recieve recovery if we are still harbouring resentments towards others,

Ecclesiastes 8:6 There is a time and a way for everything, even when a person is in trouble. When God knows we are ready everything will fall into place in our lives.

We need recovery because we all suffer rebellion
My favourite verse in the Bible is Hebrews 3:15 “Today when you hear His voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” When God speaks to you listen and do what He tells you to do. even if you don’t understand it. How often in the past have we walked blindly into the wrong things. Now is the time to walk faithfully into the right things,

In Job 13:23  Job asks God to “Tell me, what have I done wrong? Show me my rebellion and my sin. Are we ready through the process of recovery for God to show us our rebellion and our sin?
Psalms 51:3 For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. I can realte to  that. Can you?

Psalms 39:8 Rescue me from my rebellion. Do not let fools mock me. We will all have mockers as we go through this process of recovery.Through it we need to learn to trust God and lean on Him.

We all need recovery because we all need peace
1 Peter 3:11 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.
Psalms 4:8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.
Psalms 29:11 The Lord gives His people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.
Matthew 5:9 God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

Romans 8:6 says “Letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
Hebrews 12:14 says “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.” Not easy but necessary.

That’s God! With Him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing. Every time I’m in trouble I call on Him, confident that He will answer. Far better to take refuge in Him than trust in people.

We all need recovery because it leads to humilty
James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor.

Colossians 3:12 Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

Matthew 5:5 God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.

Matthew 23:12 But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Psalms 25:9 He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them His way.
Psalms 69:32 The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged.

Psalms 147:6 The Lord supports the humble, but He brings the wicked down into the dust.

Psalms 149:4 The Lord delights in His people; He crowns the humble with victory.

We all need recovery because our motives are mixed up
James 4:3 Even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

Proverbs 16:2 People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives.

1 Chronicles 29:17 God,  You examine our hearts and rejoice when You find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched Your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously.

1 Corinthians 4:5 Don’t get ahead of the Master and jump to conclusions with your judgments before all the evidence is in. When he comes, he will bring out in the open and place in evidence all kinds of things we never even dreamed of–inner motives and purposes and prayers. Only then will any one of us get to hear the “Well done!” of God. (msg)

We all need recovery because we are all sinners
1 John 1:8 If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense.

We are all Blasphemers
Matthew 12:31
“I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven. (Blasphemy – defaming or speaking evil against God)

We all lead others astray
Mark 9:42
“But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in Me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone hung around your neck.

John 16:9 says “The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in Me.”

Romans 5:17 says “The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and His gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one Man, Jesus Christ.”

Romans 6:7 promises When we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
Romans 6:12 says we should  “not let sin control the way you live; not give in to sinful desires.” We can’t do that in our own strength. If we could we already would have but we can’t and that is WHY we all need recovery. Welcome to the ‘4o Days of Recovery’
