You Can Hurt My Feelings But You Won’t Damage My Faith

I love recovery meetings! I love sharing at recovery meetings and I love listening to others share what God is doing in their lives at recovery meetings.

The other night at a recovery meeting somebody commented on what I said which I didn’t pay too much attention to at the time. But on the way home in the car whilst reflecting on the meeting I felt a bit offended and a bit hurt in the feelings department.

In my quiet time at home alone in discussion with the Holy Spirit the title of this blog post popped into my head. So I decided to look at what the Bible says about feelings and I decided to share some of it here.

Jeremiah 17:9 says “The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out.”  When it comes to hurting the feelings of others we really need to learn to stop and analyze what we are going to say before we open our mouth.

1 John 3:20  says If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. When it comes to our opinion of ourselves we need to consider What we used to be like? ~ What happened? and What are we like now? God created us in His image and even though we got it wrong He brought us to recovery and He has better things in store for all of us.

1 Corinthians 3:16 You realize, don’t you, that you are the temple of God, and God himself is present in you?

2 Timothy 1:7 The Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.

The Bible is full of God’s encouraging message that He loves us, cares for us and is ready willing and able to help us do what we need to do to become the people He desires us to be.

The second part of the tile says YOU WILL NOT DAMAGE MY FAITH! So I also spent some time looking at what the Bible says about faith. Here are just a few verses I found.

Matthew 21:22 “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Romans 10:17 Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Ephesians 2:8 God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

Philippians 4:13  I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.

2 Corinthians 5:7 We live by believing and not by seeing.

I don’t know about you? But after I read these verses and talked to God about them I felt less offended and hurt than when I reflected on the comments of someone else.
