Everyman’s Quota

Keep us alive with three square meals. Matthew 6:11

There is not enough money in this world to satisfy our addictions. Alcohol, drugs and wrong living emptied my pockets. No matter how much I earned, and I had some high paying jobs during my using years.

My family and friends were disappointed in me. I was well known in the pubs I drank at where people were always glad to see me. But not at home. Over the years of using I spent periods of my time living with different members of my immediate family, always with the same result. Disappointment a feeling of unhappiness because something is not as good as you expected or has not happened in the way you hoped.

Entering Bible-based recovery in 1989 I discovered God answering my prayers and my daily bread provided for in wonderful ways. He provided for me in ways I just didn’t understand and can’t explain. What I can explain is I was changed. I no longer had to struggle to move forward in life. He kept opening new doors for me and I kept walking through them to better things in my life.

Philippians 4:19 You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus.

Matthew 6:31-33 What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

Matthew 6:34Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

Prayer: Lord, help me today to rely on your provision for my life. I pray that I may never again try to provide for myself what you have already provided.
