Slaves to Addiction

John 8:34 Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave.

We don’t like to use the word ‘slave’ very often. We certainly don’t like it applied to use or hose we love. But, often people addicted to alcohol and drugs are referred to as being ‘slaves’to addiction’

It is not just those who abuse alcohol and drugs that are slaves. Jesus tells us we are all slaves because we are all sinners. If we are honest with ourselves we will admit that no matter how hard we try to overcome our weaknesses on our own we always fail.

Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave. A slave is a transient, who can’t come and go at will. The Son, though, has an established position, the run of the house. So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through. John 8:34-36
