He wanted desperately to see Jesus, but the crowd was in his way–he was a short man and couldn’t see over the crowd. So he ran on ahead and climbed up in a sycamore tree so he could see Jesus when he came by. Luke 19:3-4
Zacchaeus was disadvantaged, stature always a problem for him because he was short. As chief tax collector he was despised, even hated. His own people disowned him. He lived an isolated life, keeping his distance from people. Money-making was bringing him so much it made him uncomfortable. He had no joy in his life!
When Jesus came to town curiosity got the better of Zacchaeus and he made up his mind to go and see what was happening. Beause he was short he couldn’t see anything so he decided to climb a tree to get a better look. Climbing the tree made him feel good because He had reached a top position. Sound familiar? Sometimes through a false sense of security we can feel like we have attained a top position from doing our own thing and getting what we want.
Most of us know the story of Zacchaeus and how Jesus told him to come down because He [Jesus] was going to his house. When He got to his house Jesus said “Today is salvation day in this home! For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost.”
What God did then He can be repeated for us – It us life-changing!
What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you? Luke 9:25
Think straight. Awaken to the holiness of life. No more playing fast and loose with resurrection facts. Ignorance of God is a luxury you can’t afford in times like these. Aren’t you embarrassed that you’ve let this kind of thing go on as long as you have? 1 Corinthians 15:34
Go after those who take the wrong way. Be tender with sinners, but not soft on sin. The sin itself stinks to high heaven. Jude 1:23
