Created For Relationship
In a dream he saw a ladder that reached from earth to heaven…. the Lord was standing beside the ladder. Genesis 28:12-13
Occasionally we come across someone whose life mirrors ours. Certainly in the Bible such characters confront us. Jacob is one whose pattern many others have followed. The deceiver was himself deceived or cheated out of what rightly seemed his. Things boomeranged him and once he god involved in wrongdoing he started to run. He was on the run for thirty years from his brother. He lived a turbulent life! For a time he seemed to go from bad to worse., despite a revelation from God of divine interest in him.
Jacob saw God take the initiative, throw down the ladder of mercy, of grace to help.
God’s covenant promise to Abraham and Isaac was offered to Jacob as well. But it was not enough to be Abraham’s grandson; Jacob had to establish his own personal relationship with God. God has no grandchildren; each person must have a personal relationship with him. It is not enough to hear wonderful stories about Christians in your family. You need to become part of the story yourself
