“Come. Let us talk some more about this matter,” says the Lord. “Even though your sins are bright red, they will be as white as snow. Even though they are deep red, they will be white like wool. But you have to be willing to change and obey me. If you are, you will eat the best food that grows on the land. You must follow me. You must obey me. If you do not, you will be killed with swords.” The Lord has spoken. Isaiah 1:18-20

Before coming into recovery, I knew of the Bible I had seen a couple. I had been taught some of the familiar Bible stories in Sunday school. I had seen some of the stories in movies.
My first encounter with the Bible in recovery was through a devotional book I bought pre-becoming a Christian called ‘God’s Word’ Through that devotional I believe that God began communicating with me. It was following a relapse after eighteen months of sobriety in A.A. I believe God spoke to me for the first time. Or maybe it’s just the first time I heard Him.

In this age of computers, smart phones and tablets tos in the know sometimes refer to the term GIGO. It stands for ‘Garbage in, Garbage out.’ In other words if false information is fed in, false information will come out.
Jesus, away back, put it bluntly concerning our lives, “What;s in, comes out.” He said.If we are going to live the reality of our new found faith and be the real thing, rather than ‘FAKE’ there has to be daily intake.
Spiritual vitamins, soul nourishment, for our inner refreshment and sustenance. Otherwise what is shown will be unworthy character traits. If we are all talk we will talk a lot of nonsense. I learned the phrase and use it often “If you talk about what you know, you will know what you are talking about.” If we want to share the ‘Good News‘ with others we need to know what the good news is.
Daily intake of the Word of God is essential if we want to live and share Bible-based recovery in our lives. In Matthew 4:4 Jesus said, “It is written, ‘Man doesn’t live only on bread. He also lives on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Deuteronomy 8:3)
King David testified: “I have hidden your word in my heart so that I won’t sin against you.”Psalms 119:11

Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right. They will be filled. Matthew 5:6
Like babies that were just born, you should long for the pure milk of God’s word. It will help you grow up as believers.1 Peter 2:2
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple? God’s Spirit lives in you.1 Corinthians 3:16
Put on all of God’s armor. Then you can stand firm against the devil’s evil plans.Ephesians 6:11
