James 2:5 My dear brothers and sisters, listen to me. Hasn’t God chosen those who are poor in the world’s eyes to be rich in faith? Hasn’t he chosen them to receive the kingdom? Hasn’t he promised it to those who love him?

Recovery has nothing to do with how much money you have, where you went to school or where you grew up. We are in recovery because God chose us to be here. We are the people who are meant to be here and He has others in our communities He wants us to reach out to and invite in.

One of my favourite movies of all time is Monty Pythons ‘The life of Brian’ Especially the scene where they are going up for crucifixion and the guy says “Nah, they said I could go free.”

Most of us would do anything not to go through what we have to go through to get recovery and keep it but we are in the right place.

  • Thank You Jesus for putting me right where I need to be to find recovery.

Prayer: Lord make today a good day.

Ephesians 5:18 Don’t fill yourself up with wine. Getting drunk will lead to wild living. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Some of the people who have always annoyed me in recovery. Now don’t get me wrong because I have done it. People who get drunk/stoned and turn up to a meeting.

I used to have an alcohol addiction and I used to use a lot of drugs. Both gutter drugs and illicit drugs. I was a top-up drinker so I was drunk most of the time but I always managed to stay sober for the 90 minutes I was in meetings.

You have all heard the saying “ones too many and a thousand isn’t enough.” As a practicing alcoholic I cannot remember an occasion where I had one or two drinks and went home.

  • Have you ever attended a recovery meeting under the influence?

Spending Power

“I readily admit that the Jews are impressively energetic regarding God—but they are doing everything exactly backwards.”  Romans 10:2

Thought For Today

Following on from yesterday the one thing Robinson Crusoe found useless while stranded on an island was money. We all need some to survive, it gives us spending power. Where we direct our money is important.

Meditation For Today

We are really stewards of money. Money is nothing in its self. It is currency as it is kept moving, a symbol of service rendered. Money should not be equated to wealth. The world has scores of poor people who are rich, and lots of rich people who are poor.

The main thing we need to remember today is the call to wise management of our money. We shall not benefit from spending it on alcohol or drugs. As we follow God’s lead in our lives it has to be in yieldedness of everything, including money. God can make better use of all we have And make it go further if we give our all to Him. Is our spending power really ours?

Prayer For Today

Lord forgive me for wasting what You give me. Help me to surrender to Your will and use what You give me wisely.

Just For Today

Verse For Today

Isaiah 55:2 Why spend money on what does not satisfy? Why spend your wages and still be hungry?

Thought For Today

Most of us would have had some experience of spending money on things that don’t satisfy. The old prophet asked the question of the Jews. “Why spend money on what doesn’t satisfy.” Money we often had no right to spend. Leaving us with feelings of guilt and shame.

Meditation For Today

As we attempt to make sense of our past, responsibility is a good investment. Our time, talents and God-given gifts put to good use in productive spiritual living. Ephesians 2:3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. Can we now live the reality of 2 Corinthians 12:15 Gladly give all that I have and all that I am. For the glory of God and growth of others.

Prayer For Today

Lord help me today, show me ‘The Way’ one day at a time.

Thought For Today

Thought For Today

O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Psalms 8:1

Is your God too small? In my life, God is full of surprises. He mixes the seasonal with the unseasonable, the normal with the unexpected, the natural with the supernatural. He always holds something in reserve. Holds His abundances and abilities until we need them. He is inexhaustible in resources, incomprehensible in sovereignty, and insoluble in greatness/ The Psalmist is tenderly God-conscious, credits the glory on earth and in heaven to Him.

Meditation For Today

Think Long and think hard but when you think of God thing BIG! Set your sights on appreciating Him. Psalms 8:3-4 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?

Lifting our eyes to Him confronts us with wonder that is matchless. Jeremiah 29:13 You will find me when you seek me if you look for me in earnest. A concept of God’s magnificence can be or the first step to an enlarged vision of who He is and what is capable in us with His help.

Prayer For Today

Lord help me not to minimize You. reveal Yourself to me – not only the God of creation but also the God of salvation.

The Right Attitude

Audio File

Ephesians 5:6 Don’t let anyone fool you with worthless words. People who say things like that aren’t obeying God. He is angry with them.

What we say affects others and what others say affects us.

I used to work with a guy who used to complain about the company we worked for. The bosses of the company and other people in the company. He used to always tell me and anyone else who would listen how he should be in charge because he could do it better. When challenged about why he didn’t leave he said “I need the job”

Listen to me “If you are in recovery and all you can do is complain about it isn’t going to work.”

Recovery requires commitment and you are not going to commit to something you dislike or resent.

How do you feel about being in recovery?

Prayer: Lord if I have the wrong attitude towards recovery adjust it.

What The Bible Says

Looking for God in all the wrong places the angel said, “Don’t be so surprised. Aren’t you looking for Jesus, the Nazarene who was crucified? He isn’t here! He has come back to life! Look, that’s where his body was lying. Now go and give this message to his disciples including Peter: “‘Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died!’” Mark 16:6-7

Let God Lead

Psalms 16:8 I know that the Lord is always with me. He is at my right hand. I will always be secure.

Awareness of God’s presence in my life changed how I acted. Most people have heard the question ‘What would Jesus do?’ I think a better question is – What would Jesus want me to do.

The world we live in today is a lot different to the world Jesus lived in. I believe if Jesus was alive today He would do things differently than He did when He was on earth. He wouldn’t sin and He wouldn’t break the law. He would still teat people with unconditional love and He would always point them in the direction of what was best for their spiritual welfare. I also believe God is present in all of our lives all of the time so we in this process of recovery need to learn how to listen and relate to His guidance of us.

How does God reveal Himself to you in your life?

What The Bible Says

Our words should be honest and our actions should reflect Christ’s integrity. Then we will no longer be babies in the faith. We won’t be like ships tossed around by the waves. We won’t be blown here and there by every new teaching. We won’t be blown around by the cleverness and tricks of people who try to hide their evil plans. Instead, we will speak the truth in love. We will grow up into Christ in every way. He is the Head. He makes the whole body grow and build itself up in love. Under the control of Christ, each part of the body does its work. It supports the other parts. In that way, the body is joined and held together. Ephesians 4:14-16
