Then Jesus used stories to teach them many things. He told them this story: “A farmer went out to sow seed. While he was scattering the seed, some of it fell by the road. The birds came and ate all that seed. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where there was not enough dirt. It grew very fast there, because the soil was not deep. But when the sun rose, it burned the plants. The plants died because they did not have deep roots. Some other seed fell among thorny weeds. The weeds grew and stopped the good plants from growing. But some of the seed fell on good ground. There it grew and made grain. Some plants made 100 times more grain, some 60 times more, and some 30 times more.
Recovery suggests getting to the hearts of evil within us. Any proposal that does not recommend soul-searching and innermost judgement to pronounce personal guiltiness is misleading. It is not till we are convinced and confess “I have sinned” and recognize the cause and effect of our sinful nature we can hope to find a solution. But, even after attaining God-granted conversion false hopes can arise.
Many of us want to be content with surface clean-up. Others realize that cleansing must take part in the whole being to allow eradication of our sinful habits and attitudes. Continuance of the process of recovery is something many refuse to undergo. Happy enough to allow God to temporary access to their lives, often dropping in and out of recovery.
To what extent are we willing to hang on to our past. Willing to wallow in self-pity and blaming of others and our circumstances? It is only when we are willing to hand over our wills and lives over to God we can expect His effective measures to work in our favor.
We are lured into a false sense of security of we believe we can accomplish recovery on our own. We ALL need Jesus.
What The Bible Says
As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. Proverbs 26:11
Pride ends in a fall, while humility brings honor. Proverbs 29:23
Since childhood you have been that way—you just won’t listen! Jeremiah 22:21
God shows His mercy to all of us. In love He desires what is best for us. Recovery not only from our addictions and compulsions but from the consequences of our sin.
An important character in the process f recovery is perseverance and continuation of the process. Don’t drop-out before the miracle happens. God is with you and He will provide all you need to keep going if you put your faith in Him.
PRAYER Lord, help me not to be blinded by half-truths but heed Your direction and give You undeviating attention.
