Thought For Today

Matthew 7:24-26  “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock.  25  Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.  26  “But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach.

To build on ‘solid rock’ means to be looking for, listening to, and responding to God’s will for your life. Practicing obedience to God’s will is learned trough continuously communicating with and paying attention to Him. James 1:22-25  says “Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear!  Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror,  walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.  But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God—the free life!—even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action.”

In 1987 I read a book called ‘Sobriety and Beyond’ an A.A. book. A chapter in that book
is headed ‘ACTION is the magic word’ This passage of scripture is clear on the foolishness of learning God’s will and not acting on it. To what degree does your life reflect God’s plan for you?
