THE GREATEST CONSEQUENCE OF SIN IS DEATH
Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master. Romans 6:23
- God gave us the free will to chose how we live. But we can’t choose the consequences of our choices. We can’t expect to live lives of continual spiritual growth unless we put God in His rightful place in them.
THE CONSEQUENCE OF IGNORING GOD IS HIS PUNISHMENT
“I warned your ancestors when I delivered them from Egypt and I’ve kept up the warnings. I haven’t quit warning them for a moment. I warned them from morning to night: ‘”Obey me or else!” But they didn’t obey. They paid no attention to me. They did whatever they wanted to do, whenever they wanted to do it, until finally I stepped in and ordered the punishments set out in the covenant, which, despite all my warnings, they had ignored.” Jeremiah 11:8
- God showed us how to live in through His Word. He warns us in it of the consequences of our sin and encourages us not to ignore Him or what He has done, is doing and will do in our lives.
WE ALL STILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF ADAM’S SIN
You know the story of how Adam landed us in the dilemma we’re in—first sin, then death, and no one exempt from either sin or death. That sin disturbed relations with God in everything and everyone, but the extent of the disturbance was not clear until God spelled it out in detail to Moses. So death, this huge abyss separating us from God, dominated the landscape from Adam to Moses. Romans 5:12-13
- We confirm our connection to Adam by our own sin. We each have a sinful nature and are prone to follow our own selfish instincts. It is because we are all sinners we all need a Savior and we all need recovery.
A PROMISE FROM GOD
“Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will reap a crop of my love; plow the hard ground of your hearts, for now, is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower salvation upon you.” Hosea 10:12 TLB
