The book of Jude- Day 1

Jude 1-2

A book in the Bible I have not spent a lot of time in is ‘Jude’ not sure why. It’s a short book filled with Scripture Gems’

So for the next few days I want to spend some time in it. Our spiritual communities, including our recovery ministries are susceptible to disease. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see that with what is going on in the world with COVID 19.

verse 1 tells us Jude(the half-brother of Jesus) is writing to those who already know God and are called and kept safe by Jesus.

The first two verses of Jude say: I, Jude, am a slave to Jesus Christ and brother to James, writing to those loved by God the Father, called and kept safe by Jesus Christ. Relax, everything’s going to be all right; rest, everything’s coming together; open your hearts, love is on the way!

The verse I want to concentrate on today is verse 2 which says: Relax, everything’s going to be all right; rest, everything’s coming together; open your hearts, love is on the way!

It says Relax, everything is going to be alright . When I read that the Bob Marley song that says; “don’t worry about a thing, cause every little things gonna be alright.” Try reading that without the song playing in your head.

My question with that in mind is this; At what point in your recovery did you believe everything was going to be alright. Because God is in control of what we can’t control. ‘The Serenity Prayer’ Which so many of us rely on to get us through the day, whether we are Christian or not starts by saying GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE! If you believe in the power of the Serenity Prayer do you believe as i believe ‘nothing in life occurs that God does not approve of’ and ‘if He approves it He has already given us a way out of it.” So, nothing is going to happen to me, or you that God doesn’t have control of.

verse 2 goes on to say “rest, everything’s coming together; open your hearts, love is on the way! Rest, everything is coming together. In step 11 it says in the second half ‘praying for God’s will and God’s power to carry out His will..’ I never wrote this stuff but it clear to me by reading it the God of AA and NA and all the other Twelve Step programs that exist in the world is none other than the ‘God of the Bible’ Question for you and for me “where do I go to get a rest? “and “Is God there?”

The last part of verse 2 says ‘open your hearts, love is on the way! ‘ I read at an AA meeting in Western Australia, many years ago a quote that has always stuck with me It says ‘the mind is like a parachute it works better when it is opened’ so is the heart. It says in this verse our hearts should be open because ‘LOVE IS ON THE WAY!” I don’t know about you but all I ever wanted was to be loved and to fit in. I never felt that I did. And, it goes against my calling from God to ‘Be different and make a difference’ The difference in my life today is I know God loves me. I know He sent Jesus not only to die for me but to teach me how to live right now. How is that working out for you?

I look forward to sharing more tomorrow on the book of Jude.
