After discovering my sinful habits and attitudes and confessing them, I am now willing to let god change me.
Over the past three weeks in step six as we have looked at our willingness to let God change us we have looked at a number of things. In week one wee looked at excuses and how we play the blame game rather than facing up to the reality of our our own making, In week two we looked at neglecting our sin and convincing ourselves we are not as bad as others so the changes need only be minimal. Week three we looked at our protective measure of not allowing others into the inner sanctuary of our lives.
So here we are at the end of step six and before we go on to step seven I want to ask the question ARE YOU READY AND WILLING TO ALLOW GOD TO CHANGE YOU? Have you completed the previous steps that are required to prepare you for change?
Romans 6:8-14 says “If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us. From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That’s what Jesus did. That means you must not give sin a vote in the way you conduct your lives. Don’t give it the time of day. Don’t even run little errands that are connected with that old way of life. Throw yourselves wholeheartedly and full-time—remember, you’ve been raised from the dead!—into God’s way of doing things. Sin can’t tell you how to live. After all, you’re not living under that old tyranny any longer. You’re living in the freedom of God.”
WE ARE NOW FREE TO FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD AND DO HIS WILL
* free spiritually
John 8:36 If the Son sets you free, you are free through and through.
*free from the power of sin
Romans 5:21 All sin can do is threaten us with death, and that’s the end of it. Grace, because God is putting everything together again through the Messiah, invites us into life—a life that goes on and on and on, a world without end.
*free to serve others
Galatians 5:1 Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.
As we finish with step six and get ready for what is to come I pray that because of the freedom God has granted us through the process of the Twelve Steps and the recovery process many more who still suffer from the negative effects of addictions and compulsions can also experience His freedom so he to can make a difference in the lives of those who come after the,.
