Day: 4 January 2022

2022 – Day Four – Discussion Starter

1 Corinthians 6:9 Don’t you know that an evil person will not receive God’s kingdom? Don’t be fooled.

In my early years of addiction, I looked up to and followed all the wrong people. My heroes were those that could drink the most, those that won the most fights, those that didn’t care.

In recovery that changed! I realized being a hero has nothing to do with how macho you are and everything to do with what you believe and how committed you are to your beliefs.

Recovery is about facing the truth about what you believe and changing your beliefs if you need to.

  • How has what I believed in the past got me in trouble?

  • Which of my beliefs do I need to change?

  • Am I ready and willing to change?

Prayer: God help me today to learn and follow what You believe about me

2022 | Day Four | Morning Harmony

God’s firm foundation is as firm as ever, these sentences engraved on the stones: GOD KNOWS WHO BELONGS TO HIM. 2 Timothy 2:19

Some of the people we meet in recovery distort the truth. Some dilute it, others like to spout their own truth. Or some simply want o delete God from the recovery process.

The solid foundation of God’s Word never changes. “He’s the same today as yesterday, My great unchanging friend.”

When we read, meditate on and follow His truth we will know His will for our lives.

2 Timothy 2:20-21 says “In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets—some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage. Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing.”

Paul urged Timothy to be the kind of person God can use for His purpose. As we grow spiritually in the process of recovery, we need to allow God to use us to get His message across to those still suffering the negative effect of their addiction and compulsions.

Staying close to God and keeping His commandments as we grow in His strength and His power as we work through the Twelve Steps of Living Life Recovery needs to become a daily priority in our lives.

Just for today Lord show me Your will for my life, learn what I need to learn and apply what I need to apply for You to use me.

2022 | Day Four | Verse for Today

Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. Give a warm welcome to any brother who wants to join you, even though his faith is weak. Don’t criticize him for having different ideas from yours about what is right and wrong.  Don’t bad-mouth each other, friends. It’s God’s Word, his Message, his Royal Rule, that takes a beating in that kind of talk. You’re supposed to be honoring the Message, not writing graffiti all over it. God is in charge of deciding human destiny. Who do you think you are to meddle in the destiny of others?

The Bible is pretty clear on how we should treat others. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to ‘Love God’ and the second [just as important] is to ‘Love Others’ It is easy for us as we walk this road to recovery to fall back into our old ways of thinking and behaving. That is not how God calls us to act and behave. Our example is Jesus, who loves everyone and died that all may have the same opportunities as we have. Everybody Needs Recovery and God wants everybody to have the opportunity to receive it. It says in the scripture above the way we treat others will boomerang on us. Treat others as Jesus would treat them!
