Recovery is all about changing our character to be more Godlike. To do that I believe we need to take time in the process of recovery to study the character of God and what we need to do to align our character with His. Tonight I want to share week one of book two of the seven recovery guides I have put together based on my own experience of recovery, the strength of God in my life, and the hope He has given me for a better future.
week one is headed ‘God is trustworthy’ I want to begin by sharing from Living Life Recovery discussion starters.
Trust often requires courage. There have been many times in my life since becoming a Christian where I have had to trust God. Times where I have been in conditions where I have thought “This is it! There is no way forward from here.” And because God loves me and trusts me, He has intervened and asked me “Are you finished? Now watch Me!”
It has always amazed me and continues to do so when God gives me in the life things I never expected or deserved, In my experience, there is no greater feeling or faith builder available in this life.
Because of my faith in God and my decision in step three to turn my will and my life over to His care I have had more opportunities, and more breaks in my one life than anyone should have had. All because in 1987 I realized I had a problem with drugs and alcohol and needed help outside of myself to change my life.
God is good – ALL THE TIME
I didn’t believe that. early in recovery, I could not see how God could help me to become a productive member of the society I lived in. How He could take the broken pieces of my life and make me a whole person. But He did and here I am 59 years old in May this year and still living the life He has led me to. Living each day appreciating and accepting what He has provided for me and He gives me the strength to do. Does it all align with what I want? No but it does align with what I need.
Tonight I want to ask you the question: Is there a time through this recovery process when God has intervened in your life and done amazing things?
I could fill a book with the things that exist in my life because of His intervention.
Prayer: Just for today God help me to courageously follow You and do what You call me to do
GOD DOESN’T LIE
God can’t break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. Hebrews 6:18
Matthew 24:35 Sky and earth will wear out; my words won’t wear out.
1 Samuel 15:29 God doesn’t deceive, and he doesn’t dither. He says what he means and means what he says.
GOD IS TRUTH
He manufactures truth and justice; All his products are guaranteed to last. Psalm 111:7
Psalms 19:7 The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road.
James 1:17 Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.
WE CAN TRUST GOD
Some give the credit for victory to their chariots and soldiers, but we honour the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7
Jeremiah 17:5 God’s Message: “Cursed is the strong one who depends on mere humans, Who thinks he can make it on muscle alone and sets God aside as dead weight.”
Hebrews 3:12 Watch your step, friends. Make sure there’s no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God.
LET GOD HANDLE YOUR SITUATION BEFORE IT HANDLES YOU.
YOU’RE NO LONGER A SLAVE BUT A
CHILD OF GOD, AND EVERYTHING HE HAS BELONGS TO YOU.
