Genesis 28:12-13 He dreamed: A stairway was set on the ground and it reached all the way to the sky; angels of God were going up and going down on it. Then God was right before him, saying, “I am God, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. I’m giving the ground on which you are sleeping to you and to your descendants.“
In recovery, we come across some people whose lives mirror our own. In the Bible we read of such characters. Whether we read about them or meet people like us it can be confronting. Jacob’s life pattern is a life=patterb many have followed. The deceiver himself deceived or cheated out of what he thought was rightfully his. Because of his feelings, he got involved in wrongdoings from which he ran away. On the run for thirty years from his brother. For a time he seemed to go from bad to worse in his life. Despite a revelation from God of divine interest in Him and ‘how it works.’
Jacob saw God take initiative in His life by throwing down a ladder of mercy, grace, and help. Jacob could have been immediately tined to Heaven, been lifted out of himself, and begun to walk God’s purpose for his life. Favorably impressed with God, Jacob tried to barter with God. to accept God’s favor on His terms.
Many of us I am sure can relate to times when we have been willing to do what God wants, as long as it fits in with our agenda. Happy to help those we come across in recovery, as long as they do things the way we tell them to. When we come across people in recovery of in the Bible whose lives mirror ours we need to pay attention to them, learn from them the God-lessons they have entered our sphere of influence to teach us, share with them what God has done and is doing in our lives and d what we can to help them to move forward in their spiritual progress.
