2022 | Day Seventy-Two | Thought for Today

In order to be accepted into the Bridge Program in South Australia, you needed to be assessed by a Detox counselor. When I made a decision to do the Bridge Program I was staying in The Salvation Army’s William Booth Men’s Hostel. A frequent visitor to detox and well known by the staff and counselors. I remember being assessed and the counselor telling me “sorry you can’t go on the program your attitude is all wrong.” A salvation Army Officer whom I knew from Perth saw me that day and intervened and that is how I made it to the Bridge Program.

Have you ever stopped someone from achieving their goal because of your attitude?

God’s servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool. Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing. Run after mature righteousness—faith, love, peace—joining those who are in honest and serious prayer before God. Work firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth. Be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you. It wasn’t so long ago that we ourselves were stupid and stubborn, dupes of sin, ordered every which way by our glands, going around with a chip on our shoulder, hated and hating back. But when God, our kind and loving Savior God, stepped in, He saved us from all that. It was all His doing; we had nothing to do with it. He gave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit.

Just for today Lord help me not to stunt the spiritual growth of others. Teach me Your ways so I may teach them to others and support them in becoming all You created them to be.
