2022 | Day Seventy-Nine | I Am a Friend of God

Abraham believed God and was set right with God, (includes his action.) It’s that mesh of believing and acting that got Abraham named “God’s friend.”

Read James 2:22-24

It says in my BibleThe full meaning of “believe” in the Scripture sentence is that Abraham was named ‘Gods friend evidenced by changes in his action. Now anyone who has read these blog posts for a while will know my spiritual walk was influenced by the AA book Sobriety and Beyond by Father John Doe. Throughout the book, it talks about ‘ACTION’ being the magic word. In Step Two “WE CAME TO BELIEVE” God could and would help us to change if we put our faith and trust in Him. That He would help us to do what we needed to do our characters to live better lives than we had been living. If we really believe this then we should now be willing, with God’s help to develop new ways of acting and reacting to the things that happen in our lives. Verse 24 in the scripture above says “Is it not evident a person is made right with God by faith fruitful works.” My question for us all today is “are my actions today actions of which God approves?”

Don’t assume that you can lean back in the arms of spiritual growth and take it easy, feeling smug because you’re an insider to God’s revelation,
a connoisseur of the best things of God informed on the twelve steps and traditions. Knowing what God wants you to do and ignoring it leads to relapse. If you understand God’s will you should act on it. Because acting on it not only blesses you but blesses everyone in your sphere of influence. Knowing the right thing to do and not doing it goes against the principle of living a life of ‘rigorous honesty’ Sin hidden win God’s commandments can do more harm than sin on its own. So be careful don’t just talk the talk, learn to walk the walk.

Lord just for today help me to apply Your balance to my life. Let me not be hot or cold but be committed to Your will and act accordingly.
