Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity. 1 John 2:15-17
John begins his book with a warning against false ideas. 1 John 2:12 I remind you, my dear children; Your sins are forgiven in Jesus’ name.
Loving the world’s way’s, surrendering to the world’s ways. Developing habits based on what the world thinks is acceptable is unacceptable. People come into recovery and fall under the influence of other people, failing to understand that people ae fallible.
Love of the world in the Bible cannot be reconciled with the love of the Father.
Pride comes before a fall. Sometimes we develop habits to save face, protect our credibility. Most times when we do what is wrong for our own comfort and acceptance in the world we know it is wrong before we do it, while we are doing it and after we have done it. Leading to feelings of shame, remorse and self-loathing.
LOVE of God and love of the world are incompatible
Matthew 6:24 “You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other.”
- The world is sinful.
- Love of the world and it’s ways makes us sinful.
- Obedience to the ‘Principles of Recovery’ according to God’s word and God’s commandments helps us to endure and to grow in spiritual maturity as we allow Him to help us let go of our old habits and develop new habits He approves of.
When you step into God’s grace, and, believe through faith He can and will help you change your bad habits
– His hope becomes your new way of living.
