Throw out anything tainted with evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22

I learned bad habits by doing bad things. I did bad things because they felt good. Notice I said ‘they felt good’ not ‘they were right.’

Recovery is about doing the right thing. We are all born knowing the difference between right and wrong. Most of us end up in trouble because we choose to do wrong. I did.

In recovery and in life the best source I have found to learn the right thing from is the Bible.  God created us in His image and He gave us His Word as a guide of how to live life as He wants us to.

  • Do you read the Bible?

  • Do you Pray?

  • If not, why not?

  • Are you willing to start?

Prayer: God today give me a desire to do the right thing. Give me a thirst to know Your Word and to apply it to my life.

don’t take God for Granted

Psalm 18:21 Now I’m alert to God’s ways; I don’t take God for granted.

bad habits are as bad as vandalism

Proverbs 18:9 Slack habits and sloppy work are as bad as vandalism.

listening to god is a good habit to adapt

Romans 6:17-18  Thank God you’ve started listening to a new master,  one whose commands set you free to live openly in his freedom!

prayer is a good HABit to adapt

Acts 10:1-2  There was a man named Cornelius who lived in Caesarea, captain of the Italian Guard stationed there.  He was a thoroughly good man. He had led everyone in his house to live worshipfully before God, was always helping people in need, and had the habit of prayer.

Light of The World

2 Corinthians 4:3-4 GNB If the gospel we preach is hidden, it is hidden only from those who are being lost. They do not believe, because their minds have been kept in the dark by the evil god of this world. He keeps them from seeing the light shining on them, the light that comes from the Good News about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

God advertised Himself in Jesus. ‘The Image of the Father’ Declared and presented. Romans 3:25 God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public–to set the world in the clear with himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins he had so patiently endured.

Eternal Light colorfully displayed in Person for a short thirty-three years. Jesus Christ appeared on earth to shatter the build-up of gloom that existed in human hearts, to dispel the darkness of godlessness, and offer a Light-Way tp discovery of God and His will.

John 3:19  says “This is the crisis we’re in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God.” We can fall into the error of worshipping stuff rather than embracing the glorious Son of God. The choice is ours.

Joshua 24:15 “If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you’d rather serve–and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you’re now living. As for me and my family, we’ll worship God.”

#6 Morning Start-Up

John 7:12-13

Some people have trouble believing we have really changed. I know for my family it took time. Because I had entered rehab previously (a couple of times) and failed. This can be frustrating and can make us feel angry. But we need to remember that our old lifestyle affected other people deeply. When I was drinking and using drugs I am sure it brought unhappiness into the lives of those who loved me. Over my drinking career, I reckon I stayed with every member of my family in their homes in an attempt to help me stop. It never worked. I would promise to change. And, sometimes for a period, I did but I always reverted to my old ways. It was only when I turned my life over to God that I was able to experience real, lasting life-transformation.

God’s opinion of me is the most important thing in my life. I want to please an audience of One! I want my life to be a witness of His saving grace and His power to change individuals like me. Having been reborn spiritually, I want to grow spiritually day by day until I reach spiritual maturity in His eyes. Only as I lean on Him can others depend on me.

Jesus Christ was misunderstood and misread. He was not only a perfect man, but He was also a perfect God. He was incarnate goodness and if we choose to allow Him to be our One True Higher Power we will aspire to be like Him.

Self-effort avails us nothing. We can only obtain true spiritual maturity through receiving the Holy  Spirit into our lives and following His leading.

I pray that I will not pay too much attention to other people’s opinions of me, but look to God for His approval. I pray that Ge will make me dependable so others can regain their trust in me.

#2130 An Audience Of ONE

1 Thessalonians 2:4 We aren’t trying to please people. We want to please God.

God not only sees all we do, but knows our thoughts, and searches our hearts. It is from Him that we will receive our recovery.

One of the biggest rewards I have received from God through the process of walking with Him daily I the opportunity to share my experience, strength and hope with others. It disappoints me, though doesn’t surprise me anymore the number of people who like to give me advice on how I should conduct myself in recovery.  I accept that I don’t know all the answers and don’t get it right all the time, but I have a Saviour who does and He is the only audience I need to approve of how I conduct myself at all times.

  • Do you need the approval of others to define your character?

Psalms 16:5 My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I’m your choice!

Psalms 119:30 I choose the true road to Somewhere.

Psalms 119:75 I can see now, God, that your decisions are right; your testing has taught me what’s true and right.

Proverbs 22:1 A sterling reputation is better than striking it rich; a gracious spirit is better than money in the bank.

1 Peter 2:9 You are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you–
The WORD For Recovery

Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave.  “When he comes, he’ll expose the error of the godless world’s view of sin, righteousness, and judgment.  God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public–to set the world in the clear with himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins he had so patiently endured. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us.
