Grab Hold of Hope

Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you. Psalms 39:7

The Lord is the source of all hope because He understands our pasts, guides us in the present and knows our future.

I’m glad from the inside out, ecstatic; I’ve pitched my tent in the land of hope. I have committed myself heart and soul to what God promised my ancestors. May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!

Remember that your bodies are created with the same dignity as the Master’s body. With Gods kind of hope to excite us, nothing can hold us back. The Message is as true among you today as when you first heard it. It doesn’t diminish or weaken over time. Speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it. God can’t break his word. And because His word cannot change, His promises are likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go.

Commit to Recovery

40 Days Reflection - Day 4.png

Genesis 21:1 God visited Sarah exactly as he said he would; God did to Sarah what he promised.

Commit to Recovery
“You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom. Jesus said, “Throw your lot in with the One that God has sent. That kind of a commitment gets you in on God’s works.” Once the commitment is clear, you do what you can, not what you can’t. The heart regulates the hands. I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward–to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision–you’ll see it yet!

Matthew 5:10 ~ John 6:29 ~ 2 Corinthians 8:12 ~ Philippians 3:12-15

God keeps His word. Whatever He promises us we can be sure it will happen and we can be committed to it. Like Sarah sometimes we can believe complete recovery is impossible but with God all things are possible. When we are totally committed to the recovery process we can ne sure “God will clear our blurred vision”  and we will “see”  “God beckoning us onward” in the process.

Out or In?

…. you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

Recovery is a process we choose to follow. Are you out or are you in? You can’t be a little bit in recovery, any more than a woman can be a little bit pregnant. It is an all-or-nothing commitment.

The Bible goes on in 1 Peter 2:10-12 to say “Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

  • Because you have changed – live lile it:
    – Stop doing the things you know are sperating you from knowing and following God’s will for your life.
    – Stop hiding who you are, your God-given identity and show people His loe and His power through the changes He has already made in you.
    – Encourage others by your actions to prepare for the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ by your example of right living through the power of God mercy in your life.

Commit to the process of recovery. And, in humbly ask Him to remove any blocks that are stopping you from becoming all He is calling you to be through faith.

Step Three ~ Week Three

I am committing to help God help me change.

You are familiar with the generosity of our Master, Jesus Christ. Rich as he was, he gave it all away for us–in one stroke he became poor and we became rich. So here’s what I think: The best thing you can do right now is to finish what you started last year and not let those good intentions grow stale. Your heart’s been in the right place all along. You’ve got what it takes to finish it up, so go to it. Once the commitment is clear, you do what you can, not what you can’t. The heart regulates the hands. 2 Corinthians 8:9-12

Here are six things I found useful in the process of learning to COMMITTING TO LETTING GOD HELP ME CHANGE’

Communicate with God regularly

Ephesians 5:6
Don’t let yourselves get taken in by religious smooth talk. God gets furious with people who are full of religious sales talk but want nothing to do with him.

Obey what God tells you to do

Jeremiah 7:23Obey me. Do what I say and I will be your God and you will be my people. Live the way I tell you. Do what I command so that your lives will go well.”

Make Jesus Christ your ‘One True Higher Power’

Matthew 9:13 Figure out what this Scripture means: ‘I’m after mercy, not religion.’ I’m here to invite outsiders, not coddle insiders.”

Make God’s goals your goals

Jeremiah 29:11 I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out–plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

Include the Holy Spirit in everything

2 Timothy 1:14 Guard this precious thing placed in your custody by the Holy Spirit who works in us.

Think! Think! Think!

Matthew 15:19 It’s from the heart that we vomit up evil arguments, murders, adulteries, fornication’s, thefts, lies, and

    Psalms 25:10
From now on every road you travel Will take you to God. Follow the Covenant signs; Read the charted directions.

Psalms 31:23 God takes care of all who stay close to Him.

Hebrews 3:14 If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started, we’re in this with Christ for the long haul.

Talk It Over

Have you committed to helping God help you change? If not, why not?

2. The promise of God says, “If we can keep our grip on what we have started!” How can you keep your grip on not allowing the past to drag you backward
? Explain

Morning Harmony #33

Luke 9:20 “What are you saying about me? Who am I?” Peter answered, “The Messiah of God.”

People have many different opinions about Jesus and His teachings. Thousands subscribe to Him being him being a great teacher and even a renowned religious leader. His moral stature is highly regarded and many do not deny His place in history. Undoubtedly the average person is willing to go as far as acceptance of Jesus but are reluctant to accept His teachings to strike at their conscience and cause soul searching.

C.S. Lewis wrote “I am trying to prevent anyone saying the really foolish things people often say: “I am ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.”

Jesus claimed to be God. He didn’t leave any option open. His claim must be either true of false. The vital question for us all today is “Who do we say He is?” For me the answer is simple He is my One True Higher Power. I tried recovery without Him, and failed. Then in 1989 I committed my life to His care and control and everything in my character and in my life changed – for the better!

“The One who comes from above is head and shoulders over other messengers from God. The earthborn is earthbound and speaks earth language; the heavenborn is in a league of his own. He sets out the evidence of what he saw and heard in heaven. No one wants to deal with these facts. But anyone who examines this evidence will come to stake his life on this: that God himself is the truth. “The One that God sent speaks God’s words. And don’t think he rations out the Spirit in bits and pieces. The Father loves the Son extravagantly. He turned everything over to him so he could give it away–a lavish distribution of gifts. That is why whoever accepts and trusts the Son gets in on everything, life complete and forever! And that is also why the person who avoids and distrusts the Son is in the dark and doesn’t see life. All he experiences of God is darkness, and an angry darkness at that.” John 3:31-36

What The Bible Says

If you seek God, your God, you’ll be able to find him if you’re serious, looking for him with your whole heart and soul. Deuteronomy 4:29

We had just told the king, “Our God lovingly looks after all those who seek him, but turns away in disgust from those who leave him.Ezra 8:22

The poor in spirit see and are glad– Oh, you God-seekers, take heart!
Psalms 69:32

Starting from scratch, he made the entire human race and made the earth hospitable, with plenty of time and space for living so we could seek after God, and not just grope around in the dark but actually find him. He doesn’t play hide-and-seek with us. He’s not remote; he’s near. We live and move in him, can’t get away from him! One of your poets said it well: ‘We’re the God-created.’ Well, if we are the God-created, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to think we could hire a sculptor to chisel a god out of stone for us, does it? Acts 17:26-29

#Seek #Commit #Claim

“Seek God, not happiness
– this is the fundamental rule of all meditation. If you seek God alone, you will gain happiness:
that is its promise.”
― Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Prayer: Lord I believe, heal my unbelief. Quicken my faith and draw me closer to You.

Living God’s Way

What happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard–things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Galatians 5:22-23

1 Corinthians 14:1 Go after a life of love as if your life depended on it–because it does. Give yourselves to the gifts God gives you. Most of all, try to proclaim his truth.

Matthew 11:27 Jesus said “The Father has given me all these things to do and say. This is a unique Father-Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge. No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does. But I’m not keeping it to myself; I’m ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen.”

What are you waiting for? Return to your God! Commit yourself in love, in justice! Wait for your God, and don’t give up on him–ever! Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him to help you do it, and he will. Hosea 12:6  Psalms 37:5

Don’t Let Anyone Divert You From the TRUTH!

1 John 3:7-8 My dear children, don’t let anyone divert you from the truth. It’s the person who acts right who is right, just as we see it lived out in our righteous Messiah. Those who make a practice of sin are straight from the Devil, the pioneer in the practice of sin. The Son of God entered the scene to abolish the Devil’s ways.

Ephesians 4:27 says “Don’t give the devil a way to defeat you.” A strong command to shut the devil out. The verse above tells us that God sent Jesus to ‘abolish the devil’s ways.’ Our commitment to His Lordship enables us to trust Him so that the devil is robbed of his authority over us. Jesus is stronger than the devil and sin and satan must bow to Him.

Entrust yourself to Christ. Count on Him to release you from, and keep you from the clutches of the evil one. He must be dominant in our lives as we seek to allow Him to prevail within us and force His presence to keep us on the right track.

Living Life Recovery Reflection

Romans 3:23 Everyone has sinned. No one measures up to God’s glory.

If you are like me and have been reading along, thinking to yourself, “This is too hard.” RELAX!

None of us are Why? Because God was looking after me and the counselor could see that. good enough for recovery. That’s the beauty of it. Even though we are not worthy enough, we have done some terrible things, committed some terrible sins. God forgives us.

I want to tell you about a time that should have ended my recovery journey. When I was in rehab we went out (on the bus) for a BBQ in the park. I and two other guys decided we were going to go to the local pub. We did and we drank. When we got back to the rehab the counselor called us individually in to see him. The two other guys got expelled from the program, packed their bags and left, there and then. I got sent to bed to sleep it off.

Why? Because God was looking after me and the counselor could see that.

– Is there a time in your life when you didn’t deserve it God has intervened in your life looked after you?

Prayer: Lord today help me to relax and trust in You
