Morning Harmony #54

A Program For Growth

We pray that you’ll live well for the Master, making him proud of you as you work hard in his orchard. As you learn more and more about how God works, you will learn how to do your work. Colossians 1:10

In every walk of life maintaining enthusiasm is one of the main challenges.

Personal coaches/motivators have become popular for the purpose of revving up waning enthusiasm, among other things.

Intoxicants are sometimes used: energy drinks, no-dose etc. Many drugs have been introduced for the purpose of relieving tension, giving ability to do extra special things and going the extra mile.

There is at tendency on completion of The Twelve Steps to relax, lose enthusiasm for learning more, stop attending meetings and stop completing the steps required for maintaining spiritual growth. It is essential in the process of recovery to remember ‘weakening our self-disciplines leads to relapse.’

Recovery is a life-long process of spiritual growth. We must grow in the ways of the Lord and continues to learn maintenance skills for the upkeep of our body, mind ans soul. Indifference kills! We must pray for a vision of God’s will for our lives and when we receive it stay focused on the goal.

What The Bible says

God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love–like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. Ephesians 4:15

Like infants at the breast, drink deep of God’s pure kindness. Then you’ll grow up mature and whole in God. 1 Peter 2:2

Grow in grace and understanding of our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ. Glory to the Master, now and forever! Yes! 2 Peter 3:18

The Bible isn’t Spooky!

God won’t put up with rebels; he’ll cull them from the pack. Psalms 34:16

I have a friend whom I have known for quite a few years now and have walked the recovery road with, who talks about ‘spooky stuff’ continually happening to him. He is talking about the Holy Spirit’s moving in his life.

There a verses in the Bible that concerned me when I first read them. That’s why the Bible needs to be investigated and not just read.

This verse is talking about God’s authority over us.

There is no point in pursuing spiritual recovery and growth without letting ‘God be God’

Growing up I attended Sunday School. I belonged to the Boys Brigade. I learned who God was and I learned who Jesus was but I never learned about God’s authority over me.

One of my biggest problems as a teenager and in my early adulthood was acknowledging and accepting authority.

  • Are you willing to let God be God?

The Holy Spirit says, Today, please listen; don’t turn a deaf ear as in “the bitter uprising,” that time of wilderness testing! Hebrews 3:7-8

This is the assigned moment for him to move into the center, while I slip off to the sidelines. John 3:30

People who hate discipline and only get more stubborn, There’ll come a day when life tumbles in and they break, but by then it’ll be too late to help them. Proverbs 29:1

What The Bible Says

About Communication

Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline–not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out. Stay clear of pious talk that is only talk. Words are not mere words, you know. If they’re not backed by a godly life. James 1:19 ~ Ephesians 4:2 ~ Colossians 4:6 ~ 2 Timothy 2:16

God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel,
cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey.
Hebrews 4:12

Thought For Today.pngGalatians 4:6 You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives

You learned deep in your heart that God disciplines you in the same ways a father disciplines his child. Deuteronomy 8:5

God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. Romans 8:16

Since the One who saves and those who are saved have a common origin, Jesus doesn’t hesitate to treat them as family,  Hebrews 2:11

The WORD For Recovery

Mark well that God doesn’t miss a move you make; he’s aware of every step you take. The shadow of your sin will overtake you; you’ll find yourself stumbling all over yourself in the dark. Death is the reward of an undisciplined life; your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end. Proverbs 5:21

CommunicationActs 2:42-47 They committed themselves to the teaching of the apostles, the life together, the common meal, and the prayers. Everyone around was in awe–all those wonders and signs done through the apostles! And all the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common. They sold whatever they owned and pooled their resources so that each person’s need was met. They followed a daily discipline of worship in the Temple followed by meals at home, every meal a celebration, exuberant and joyful, as they praised God. People in general liked what they saw. Every day their number grew as God added those who were saved.

God Disciplines Those He Loves

Proverbs 3:11-12 Young man, do not resent it when God chastens and corrects you, for his punishment is proof of his love. Just as a father punishes a son he delights in to make him better, so the Lord corrects you.

Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’

God’s Discipline Leads Us Closer Too Him

2 Corinthians 7:8-9 I am no longer sorry that I sent that letter to you, though I was very sorry for a time, realizing how painful it would be to you. But it hurt you only for a little while. Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you but because the pain turned you to God. It was a good kind of sorrow you felt, the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so that I need not come to you with harshness.

Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’

When things go badly, when affliction and suffering descend, God tells them where they’ve gone wrong, shows them how their pride has caused their trouble. He forces them to heed his warning, tells them they must repent of their bad life. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us. From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That’s what Jesus did. That means you must not give sin a vote in the way you conduct your lives. Don’t give it the time of day. If any one of you thinks God has something for you to say or has inspired you to do something, pay close attention to what I have written. This is the way the Master wants it.

Proverbs 3:11-12 Dear friend, resent God’s discipline; don’t sulk under his loving correction. It’s the child he loves that God corrects; a father’s delight is behind all this.
