2022 | Day Thirteen | Morning Harmony

We can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. All praise to God and our One True Higher Power, Jesus Christ! God is the Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, He brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. Blessed are you who give yourselves over to God, turn your backs on the world’s “sure thing,” ignore what the world worships; The world’s a huge stockpile of God-wonders and God-thoughts.

When the Holy Spirit convinces us to receive Christ we get a new perspective and a new mindset on life, We trust that God has our lives planned and He will guide us and equip us for wherever He wants us to go. Faith in God helps us to face the truth about ourselves, our lives, and our need for change. Some of us believe because Godcomforts us our problems are going to go away. We need to understand God will give us the strength, encouragement, and hope to deal with our problems.

If today you are feeling overwhelmed at what lies ahead of you, I ask you to remember God is there to help. He places in our lives other people on the same path so we can help us and they can help us move forward in the recovery process. The passage above says ‘blessed are you who give yourselves to God.’ It also says we need to turn our backs on the world’s ‘sure thing’ ACTION IS THE MAGIC WORD!

Just for today, God help me to turn my back on the things that seem like a shortcut to solving my problems. Give me the strength, encouragement and, hope to listen to the people you place in my life. Help me to help them where I can as they also help me on the road to recovery.

2022 | Day Five | Verse for Today

Salute God’s rule, now and forever. He gave us His word and He won’t take it back. If we follow Him we will be changed forever. God says “I am keeping track of their every last sin” Amos 8:7

If we believe ‘God cares about us and He can help us regain control of our lives.” we will experience rest, beyond our own understanding. When God wanted to guarantee His promise to us He gave His word – a solid rock foundation. He can’t take it back, it can’t be changed and His promise is forever. He encourages us to grab His hope with both hands and never let go.

Take what you want

After discovering my sinful habits and attitudes and confessing them, i am now willing to let god change me.

In Alcoholics Anonymous you are encouraged to ‘take what you want, and leave the rest and to ‘look for the similarities’ There a verse in the bible that says “Test everything. Keep what is good, and stay away from everything that is evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22

When I first came to recovery in 1987 I wanted none of what AA ad to offer. What I did want was to stop drinking and change my life. It never happened because the option was given to me to ‘leave what I didn’t want The Twelve Steps are not a menu, where you can pick what you want and live happily ever after/ We are in a spiritual war. A war for our sanity and well-being. We live in a sinful world so staying away from everything evil is impossible. 1 Thessalonians 5:23  May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ.

What we can do is learn, apply and live the directions of the Twelve Steps and the Bible to not give the ‘devil a foothold’ by making changes in our lives that do not ‘lead us into temptation

Proverbs 7:1-5 Dear friend, do what I tell you; treasure my careful instructions. Do what I say and you’ll live well. My teaching is as precious as your eyesight—guard it! Write it out on the back of your hands; etch it on the chambers of your heart. Talk to Wisdom as to a sister. Treat Insight as your companion. They’ll be with you to fend off the Temptress— that smooth-talking, honey-tongued Seductress.

James 1:13-14 Don’t let anyone under pressure give in to evil say, “God is trying to trip me up.” God is impervious to evil and puts evil in no one’s way. The temptation to give in to evil comes from us and only us. We have no one to blame but the leering, seducing flare-up of our own lust.

1 Corinthians 10:13  No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.

Verse for Today

We have a high priest who can feel it when we are weak and hurting. We have a high priest who has been tempted in every way, just as we are. But he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15

  • We can be comforted knowing that in His life here on earth Jesus experienced temptation. Encouraged Encouraged that even though He faced temptation He did not sin. Jesus showed us that no matter what we face in life we do not have to sin – RELAPSE IS A CHOICE!

Thought For Today

Take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels. Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. Ephesians 6:11-18

God has a plan for each of us, and for us as a group. He knows the plan, directs the plan through our life occurrences. And, He is with us every step of His plan. We need to learn a we grow in faith to apply what we have learned of His plan and through the recovery process to every area of our lives. God is a God if involvement, and He wants to be involved in every area of our lives (not just the parts we give Him access to because we feel we need His help in them) He will help us get through whatever life throws at us if we are willing to put our faith in Him and trust Him.

God wants us to be prepared for whatever life is going to throw at us and He wants us to seek help and guidance from others, more mature in faith than we are We need to learn how to apply His truth, His peace and His Salvation to daily living and we need to pray, often, hard and long for His guidance and involvement.

Step 12 says ‘Having gone through these steps and discovering the importance of an individual relationship with God through Jesus, I will try to live according to His principles and to lead others to a personal relationship with Him.’ We are called by God, through the process of recovery to encourage others as we walk the ‘Road to Recovery’ together. And, to make sure we do what it is in our power to do to make sure that no one is left behind.

What The Bible Says

Let the weakling say, “I am strong!”  Under the circumstances, it’s hard to keep quiet. You yourself have done this plenty of times, spoken words that clarify and encouraged those who were about to quit. Take limitations in your stride. Just let Christ take over! So the weaker you get, the stronger you become.

Learning The Importance of Meeting Together

Over the 30+ years I have been in may meetings AA, NA, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Alcohilcs Victorious, Overcomers Outreach,Celebrate Recovery and Living Life Recovery. My hope and my prayer is that for the rest of my days I will continue to attend many meetings because it helps me.

What The Bible Says

Praised be God, Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, compassionate Father, God of all encouragement and comfort; who encourages us in all our trials, so that we can encourage others in whatever trials they may be undergoing with the encouragement we ourselves have received from God.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4

What The Bible Says

I am a prisoner because of the Lord. So I am asking you to live a life worthy of what God chose you for. Don’t be proud at all. Be completely gentle. Be patient. Put up with one another in love. The Holy Spirit makes you one in every way. So try your best to remain as one. Let peace keep you together. There is one body. There is one Spirit. You were appointed to one hope when you were chosen. There is one Lord. There is one faith and one baptism. There is one God and Father of all. He is over everything. He is through everything. He is in everything. But each one of us has received a gift of grace, just as Christ wanted us to have it. Ephesians 4:1-7

In recovery, we are encouraged to look for the similarities in our lives, not the differences. Here we see Paul encouraging the people of Corinth similarly. Unity doesn’t just happen. It takes work! We are not all the same but we are in recovery with One Purpose. Changing our lives, to live better lives and be better people than we have been previous;y. Let us all use the ‘gift of grace’ to ‘encourage each other’ as we move forward ‘as one’

Morning Harmony #25

Running Away

Jonah got up and went the other direction to Tarshish, running away from GOD. He went down to the port of Joppa and found a ship headed for Tarshish. He paid the fare and went on board, joining those going to Tarshish–as far away from God as he could get. Jonah 1:3

When we decide to the way God wants us to live revolutionary things start to happen in our lives. As they do we may be tempted to back off, afraid of what they will mean in our lives. Jonah clearly heard God and knew what was required. Instead of obeying what God instructed him to do he ran away. In the opposite direction.

Sometimes we have to watch as people run from recovery. Running from God, like Jonah, caught in a storm and uncertainty. Willing to be thrown overboard rather than do what God calls us to do.

Jonah ran away, because he didn’t feel he was up to the task God had placed before him. He was a bit embarrassed, didn’t want to make a fool of himself. He thought he could go back to his old way of doing things, back to where he felt comfortable. For us in recovery we too can feel sometimes it would be easier to go back to our old ways. Back to a place that we know was not good for us but felt comfortable.

We are all going to feel different degrees of discomfort as we progress in our spiritual growth. We may even want to ‘Run away’ I encourage you not to. After 30+ years in recovery I can tell you from experience it is worth feeling uncomfortable to experience all God has in store for you.

What The Bible Says

Can anyone hide out in a corner where God can’t see him? Is not present everywhere, whether seen or unseen? The God of your father: The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.

We’re in no hurry, God. We’re content to linger in the path sign-posted with your decisions. Who you are and what you’ve done are all we’ll ever want. The path of right-living people is level.

Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If God makes you light-bearers, you don’t think He is going to hide you under a bucket, do you? He puts you on a light stand.

By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

Prayer: Lord I get jittery sometimes when You ask me to ‘step outside of my comfort zone.’ Help me to accept Your gracious provision and not to ‘run and hide’
