Christ has made us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get all tied up again in the chains of slavery to Jewish laws and ceremonies. Galatians 5:1 TLB
God has made a way to escape; He encourages us to flee from sin and to be faithful to Him. The Bible is full of examples of people rightly or wrongly making choices and the consequences of those choices. Making good choices in our lives will lead to positive long- term outcomes. Every choice for good sets into motion new opportunities for God. Every choice for evil follows the same pattern but in the opposite direction. Ever y decision we make to continually move forward in recovery brings order, safety, and security to our lives.
What positive examples are you following from the experiences of others?
Life is full of change. If you are like me and a creature of habit that is not always easy.
Through my life, I have lived a lot of places. In adulthood the main reason was to escape from my life, always looking for a fresh start.
My fresh start came when I decided I needed recovery and was willing to go to any lengths to achieve it. My life today is nothing like it used to be. That is thanks to my Higher Power, Jesus Christ who I decided to get into a relationship with as a matter of necessity.
God is good, a hiding place in tough times. He recognizes and welcomes anyone looking for help, No matter how desperate the trouble. But cozy islands of escape He wipes right off the map. No one gets away from God. Why waste time conniving against God? He’s putting an end to all such scheming. For troublemakers, no second chances. Like a pile of dry brush, Soaked in oil, they’ll go up in flames. Nahum 1:7
Galatians 5:18 Why don’t you choose to be led by the Spirit and so escape the erratic compulsions of a law-dominated existence?
Hebrews 12:25 Be careful and don’t refuse to listen when God speaks. Those people refused to listen to him when he warned them on earth. And they did not escape. Now God is speaking from heaven. So now it will be worse for those who refuse to listen to him.
Psalms 139:1-3 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me……… You perceive my thoughts from afar….. You are familiar with all my ways.
We are totally exposed to God. The Psalmist reminds us that each of us is fully known, with all we do, think and say. It has never been easy for people to live with this. ‘You know me’, can be frightening. Ever since Adam and Eve tried to hide from God people have devised clever tricks to camouflage their whereabouts and cover up their sins, The Bible firmly declares to things;
(a) There is nothing we can do to escape exposure to God.
(b) God despises hypocrisy; the practice of making out we are something we are not.
When we are in touch with reality there is brought before our eyes stories of people ‘found out’ Numbers 32:23 says “If you don’t do what you say, you will be sinning against God; you can be sure that your sin will track you down.” It is a God-spoken truth we all need to observe.
My life is a mess Lord, please forgive me and save me.
Psalms 90:8 You know about all our sins. You see every one of our secret sins.
When I read this verse in my head I hear the song “I can see clearly now the rain has gone. I can see all the obstacles in my way.” Step Four in the recovery process is about identifying obstacles in order to begin the process of eliminating them.
We need to remember at this point most of the obstacles in our lives did not develop overnight and will not be eliminated overnight. Some of them may take a long time to disappear.
1 Corinthians 10:13 says “The only temptations that you have are the same temptations that all people have. But you can trust God. He will not let you be tempted more than you can bear. But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation. Then you will be able to endure it.” He will help you remove every obstacle in your character that is stunting your spiritual growth and preventing you becoming all He is shaping you to be.
Psalms 139:1-12 God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. I’m an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight. You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence. I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too– your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful– I can’t take it all in! 7 Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute– you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.
We are totally exposed to God. In this Psalm David reminds us that each one of us is known. everything we do, everything we think, everything we say. It has never been easy for man to live with this. “I am an open book to You.” This can be a frightening experience. Ever since Adam and Eve attempted to hide from God people have devised clever tricks to camouflage their wherabouts and cover up their sins. The Bible clearly defines two things about this:
1- There is nothing we can do to escape exposure to God.
2- Goed despises hypocrisy; the practice of making out we are something we are not.
When we are in touch with the truthnthere is brought before our eyes stories of those “found out.” Numbers 32:23 “If you don’t do what you say, you will be sinning against God; you can be sure that your sin will track you down.”
Prayer: God You know all about me. My past boythers me, my life a mess.
Please forgive me and save me. Show me how to move forward with You.
1 Corinthians 10:12-13 Anyone who thinks they are standing strong should be careful that they don’t fall. The only temptations that you have are the same temptations that all people have. But you can trust God. He will not let you be tempted more than you can bear. But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation. Then you will be able to endure it.
Temptation is faced everyday by people. God supplies everything we need to persevere and succeed in His way of living.
