Marriage should be honored by everyone. And every marriage should be kept pure between husband and wife. Hebrews 13:4 ERV
Today, this 27th day of October 2021 I have been married to my beautiful wife Karen for 31 years. We have three fantastic children Duncan, Mitchell, and Ashleigh and God has blessed us more than either of us could ever have imagined. So today I want to take some time to look at some of what the Bible says about marriage.
In the Life Recovery Bible The Step Ten Devotional, based on the verses Romans 5:3-5 NLT We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us.
In this devotional, it talks about Peter asking Jesus in Matthew 18:21-22 “How often should I forgive someone who sins against me?” Jesus goes on to tell Him ‘seventy times seven’ In other words repeatedly. After 31 years of marriage, I am happy to say “I LOVE MY WIFE.” more and more with every day we share together. does either of us always get it right? Of course not. Are there times when we do things that offend or hurt each other? Definitely! But the bottom line in our relationship is we both agree and acknowledge it was God who brought us together and it is God that keeps us together. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And, so can you. Today I want to encourage you wherever you are. whatever stage of relationship you are in with God and with others, stay God Focused and you will not be disappointed.
He acted with a strong hand and powerful arm. His faithful love endures forever. Psalms 136:12
Thought For Today
The saints of old admitted their rottenness and ungodliness. John Newton penned “Amazing grace. That saved a wretch like me.” Isaac Watts humble wrote, “Did my Saviour bleed for a worm as I.” Willian Cowper spoke of being “bleeding, wounded, wandering in the darkness ………. vile.” Eliza Hamilton confessed ‘Helpless I am and full of guilt. My best resolves I break.’ There are countless more, in grief and despair turned to Jesus Christ. He knows our sinfulness, our human fragility, our worse resolved doubts. We must give Him a ‘fair go’ to save us from what we are and what we have become.
Meditation For Today
There are times in our ‘spiritual walk’ we will get lost in our memories of who we were and who became. Struggle with conflicting emotions. We need to put our ‘hope in God’ Praising Him, even when we do not feel like it. In dark times we need to ‘focus on His steadfast love’ We need to pray for His will to become our ‘new reality’ and continually move forward in His strength.
Prayer For Today
Lord, today help me to seek Your will and Your strength implement it as I move forward in my spiritual growth
When you enter ‘Spiritual Recovery’ and realise God had to be looking after you how could you not want to know more about Him? That’s what happened to me! Realising God cared about me and would help me recover.
Commitment to God and the process of recovery must be consistent. In the process, we have made a commitment to obey God and to trust Him. The way we live now shows others our strength and commitment to the process.
Commitment to God and the process of recovery need to be lifelong commitments. God expects our commitment to the process of spiritual growth to be permanent, not temporary.
Matthew 5:10 “You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.”
2 Corinthians 8:12 Once the commitment is clear, you do what you can, not what you can’t. The heart regulates the hands.
Philippians 3:15 Let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision–you’ll see it yet!
Seek God while He’s here to be found, pray to Him while He’s close at hand. Let the wicked abandon their way of life and the evil of their way of thinking. Let them come back to God, who is merciful, come back to our God, who is lavish with forgiveness. When you assume the posture of prayer, remember that it’s not all asking. If you have anything against someone, forgive–only then will your heavenly Father be inclined to also wipe your slate clean of sins.” Long before He laid down earth’s foundations, He had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of His love, to be made whole and holy by His love. Long, long ago He decided to adopt us into His family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure He took in planning this!)
Isaiah 55:6-7 ~ Mark 11:25 ~ Ephesians 1:4-5
Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world–wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important–has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out–but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing.
1 John 2:15-17 ~ Romans 8:7
The focus of the Good News is forgiveness of sins and freedom from guilt through faith in Christ. Have you received Gods forgiveness? Are you maturing day in the knowledge that recovery is a process of continual spiritual growth?
“Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. Matthew 6:6
“If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you! “I will not leave you orphaned.” John 14:15-18
Today at Narre Warren Baptist Church Pastor Peter Botross continued the series of the Holy Spirit and what it means to ‘Live ie the Spirit.’ for me it means
LISTENING TO GOD
John 14:15 “If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you.”
WAITING ON GOD
John 14:16 “I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you.”
FOCUSING ON GOD
John 14:17 This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!
WALKING WITH GOD
Matthew 11:28 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.
Count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. Don’t worry about defending yourselves–what you’ll say or how you’ll say it. The right words will be there. The Holy Spirit will give you the right words when the time comes.
God’s kingdom isn’t a matter of what you put in your stomach, for goodness’ sake. It’s what God does with your life as he sets it right, puts it together, and completes it with joy. May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!
Matthew 5:11 ~ Luke 12:11-12 ~ Romans 14:17 ~ Romans 15:13
