“Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.” Matthew 18:18-20

There is safety in numbers.

Growing up I was not a very sociable person. Not because I didn’t want to be but because I really never learned growing up how to belong. My parents tried encouraging me to join clubs and events to get me to mix with others but I never really fitted in.

Recovery rescued me. I attended meetings and groups where there were people just like me. People who understood my struggles. Who were patient enough to give me time to discover who I was. Who encouraged me to discover my gifts and abilities and put them to good use.

  • What are your gifts and abilities?

  • How are you using them to help others?

Prayer: Just for today God show me the real me and use me for Your Glory.

Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”Matthew 28:19-20

Be very careful to act exactly as God commands you. Don’t veer off to the right or the left. Deuteronomy 5:32

If I hadn’t come and told them all this in plain language, it wouldn’t be so bad. As it is, they have no excuse. John 15:22

  1. Find yourself then lose yourself.

Mark 8:34 Jesus called the crowd and his followers to him. He said, “Any of you who want to be my follower must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me.”

God is thinking about you.

Jeremiah 29:11 I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

What are you passionate about?
Passionate – not reasonable but you will do it anyway.

Are you good at it?

– If you are then do that. If you are not either do what you need to get good at it or forget it.

  1. What are your gifts?

In our strengths, we get energized
1 Timothy 4:7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness.

  1. How can you develop your gifts?

When we give our purpose to something bigger than ourselves, we have a calling.
Romans 11:29 The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

#2153 Love Makes Action Useful

llr reflection header1 Timothy 1:5 Love comes from a pure heart. It comes from a good sense of what is right and wrong. It comes from faith that is honest and true.

Love is more important than spiritual gifts. Great faith, acts of dedication, miracle working power have little or no effect in our lives without love.  Love makes our actions useful. Spiritual gifts differ in us but love is available to everyone.

1 John 2:7 says “This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before.” God’s love is directed outwards, towards others. It is totally unselfish and it is impossible to practice His kind of love without His help and guidance.

~ Love is a choice. How is God helping you to express it to others?

Time For God

Psalms 37:23 If the Lord is pleased with the way a man lives, he makes his steps secure.

To please God, we need to change our sinful habits and attitudes. When we do He makes all the parts of our lives fit together.

Whilst on the Bridge Program I wrote a five-year plan. Directed by God in every area of my life He showed me His plan.

Now you would think with a five-year plan from God on every area of my life the way forward should have been easy. It wasn’t, because even though I had given my life to God and was doing my best to follow Him in a number of areas of my life I still thought the same as I always had and acted accordingly.

Pleasing Him and receiving God’s gifts means putting in time not just getting to know His Word but getting to know Him on a personal intimate level.

  • How are you getting to know God personally?

The WORD For Recovery

The Twelve Gifts Of Life Recovery

Twelve Gifts

In the introduction to the book “The Twelve Gifts of Life Recovery” by Stephen Arterburn and David Stoop it talks about God’s gifts of recovery. It says of these gifts “These are not automatic results of “working the program”—they are gifts that may come to us along the way—but by working the program we prepare ourselves to receive the gifts and to know what to do with them. So as you keep working your life recovery program, keep your eyes open for God’s good gifts to come to you along the way.”

Over the next twelve weeks here at Living Life Recovery we would like to explore these “Twelve Gifts of Life Recovery” together. We hope you benefit from the experience.

Find out what you are meant to do and commit to doing it

Romans 12:6-8 In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

Christmas is:

Christmas is a time of new birth. A time when we celebrate the birth of our Saviour and Lord. But it is also a time when we celebrate our own children, through exchanging gifts and sharing a meal together.

Can I encourage anyone in a strained relationship with their children to use this time to build bridges with them. To repair the hurt and forgive the pain and make amends to their children, or parents.

It’s not the value of the gift that is important. It is the value of the love attached to the sharing.

This Christmas I thank God for my three children: Duncan, Mitchell and Ashleigh and look forward to sharing this precious day in the Christian calendar with them and my beautiful wife Karen

Regardless of the value of the gifts. The real gift is their love.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.
