2022 | Day Fifteen | Verse For Today

Don’t set people up as experts over your life, letting them tell you what to do. Save that authority for God; let him tell you what to do. No one else should carry the title of ‘Father’; you have only one Father, and he’s in heaven. And don’t let people maneuver you into taking charge of them. There is only one Life-Leader for you and them—Christ. “Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. Matthew 23:9-11

  • A life of humble service is the goal of all recovery.

2021 | Day 365 | Verse For Today

Summing up: Be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble. That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless—that’s your job, to bless. You’ll be a blessing and also get a blessing. Whoever wants to embrace life and see the day fill up with good, Here’s what you do: Say nothing evil or hurtful; Snub evil and cultivate good; run after peace for all you’re worth. God looks on all this with approval, listening and responding well to what he’s asked; But he turns his back on those who do evil things. If with heart and soul you’re doing good, do you think you can be stopped? 1 Peter 3:8-13

We can’t always be exactly in the same mind as other people. But we can have compassion for one another. If we desire to live comfortably or to possess eternal life in heaven, we must learn to control our tongue from wicked, or deceitful words. We must keep far away from evil actions and do what good we can. We must seek peace with everyone. For God, watches over the right-living and takes care of them.

Becoming a follower of Jesus Christ is totally different than just believing in Him. The Bible tells us ‘even the devil believes in Him‘ Step Twelve in the Living Life Recovery Twelve Steps says: Having gone through these steps and discovering the importance of an individual relationship with God through Jesus, I will try to live according to His principles and to lead others to a personal relationship with Him.

The scripture above tells us not only does God approve of right-living. He responds favorably to it.

True Repentance

2 Chronicles 7:14  If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

1) Humble yourself by admitting your sins
(2) Pray to God for forgiveness,
(3) Seek God continually, and
(4) Turn from sinful behavior.

True repentance is more than talk—it is changed behaviOUR

Step Seven – Week One

WE HUMBLY ASKED GOD TO REMOVE OUR SHORTCOMINGS

Titus 3:8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

WHAT WE ONCE WERE WE ARE NO MORE.
2 Corinthians 5:17I f anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

– our lives used to be dominated by our shortcomings, to overcome them we need God’s help and God’s guidance.

Step Seven talks about HUMILITY. Both humble and humility refer to having a low or modest estimate of one’s own importance. Our shortcomings in our past have been all about the ‘WIFM’ (what’s in it for me. Now we are at the step where we allow God to take our selfish ambitions, self-centered opinions and self-righteous attitudes and change them so we can become people who not only understand what it means to love God and love others. So we can become the people He is calling us to be.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT BEING HUMBLE.

BEING HUMBLE IS NOT HAVING TO HIGH AN OPINION OF YOURSELF.
Zephaniah 3:12 Those who are left will be lowly and humble, for it is they who trust in the name of the Lord.

BEING HUMBLE IS HAVING A CHILDLIKE ATTITUDE.
Matthew 18:4 Anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

BEING HUMBLE IS RECOGNISING HOW MUCH YOU NEED GOD.
Genesis 32:9-10 Jacob prayed, “God of my grandfather Abraham, and God of my father, Isaac— Lord, you told me, ‘Return to your own land and to your relatives.’ And you promised me, ‘I will treat you kindly.’ I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant. When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick. Now my household fills two large camps!

GOD LOVES THE HUMBLE
Psalms 138:6Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud.

Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real.
– Thomas Merton

What The Bible Says

WE HUMBLY ASKED HIM TO REMOVE OUR SHORTCOMINGS

Matthew 18:4 Anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

If we embark on this walk of faith [RECOVERY], coming humbly before God as His children, He is faithful to take away our shortcomings and to begin to build the kingdom of heaven within us.

Live Well, Live Wisely, Live Humbly

James 3:13-18 Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here’s what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It’s the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. Mean-spirited ambition isn’t wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn’t wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourselves sound wise isn’t wisdom. It’s the furthest thing from wisdom–it’s animal cunning, devilish conniving. Whenever you’re trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart and everyone ends up at the others’ throats. Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.

Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’

Humility

STEP SEVEN: Through acknowledgment of God’s supreme power,
I humbly ask Him to help me change my sinful habits and attitudes.

I HUMBLY ASK HIM TO HELP ME CHANGE

The disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?” Jesus called a little child to Him and put the child among them. Then He said, “I tell you the truth unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 18:1-4

  • The world tells us to grow up and stop acting like children. Jesus tells us to become like little children and put our faith and trust in Him.
  • What does it mean to “becomes as humble as this little child”

The WORD For Recovery

Give Yourself to God

logo_transparent_bgDo you think the Scriptures mean nothing? The Scriptures say, “The Spirit God made to live in us wants us only for himself.” But the kindness God shows is greater. As the Scripture says, “God is against the proud, but he is kind to the humble.” So give yourselves to God. Stand against the devil, and he will run away from you. James 4:5-7

“HE IS KIND TO THE HUMBLE”
